Thanks for the link and the photo. I really like how this building looks. I wish they would approve buildings like this downtown. I know the hudson building is 25 stories but I would love to see something like this in Harris Green and downtown.

I'll believe this when I see it just like that 30 story Hudson building since the mayor said there won't be any tall buildings going up on her watch, although this one has a better chance in it's location.

I agree, it would be nice if someday Victoria had buildings as tall as those in Kelowna and Nanaimo.

I thought that the mayor is in favor of taller buildings and densifying downtown. She has voted in favor of all the current buildings going up.

Will this 26 story building be taller than the 27 story tower in Nanaimo?

Another one of the Roundhouse tower. I've seen this rendering in newspaper advertisments. A pretty plain rendering for a pretty plain design.

I always wish they can create a new commercial centre at the Roundhouse area. Currently the area is simply too quiet. Would be awesome if I, or other visitors, have strong reasons to stroll across the Blue Bridge to visit that area from downtown.

The buildings built there remind me of the Docklands flats/hotels in London, although there are way more attractions in that part of London, including the convention/exhibition centre, cable car, nice boutique hotels, shops, cafes, markets, etc.

Wow, gorgeous pic Dylan, it really shows what an extraordinary number of mid-rises and high-rises this city has.

Fairfield is packed with lowrise apartment blocks and yet Fairfielders still get up in arms about new proposals (like the one for the Pic-a-flic/Mac's site). How many lowrise apartment buildings are visible south of Fort St. just in the few blocks shown in that pic? 50+?

Is this proposal for the parking lot across from Capital Iron?

EDIT: either I was drunk or something's amiss because what I meant to write (what I thought I had written) was quite different from what ended up in my post. Let's try it again.

It's for the parking lot across from the parking lot across from Capital Iron.

Apparently it was not warmly received at the recent council meeting. The impression that I'm getting based on the cool response to this one and the icy response to Northern Junk is that the powers that be aren't very enthused about redevelopment of the null properties in the northern part of downtown. At least not right now. I could be wrong. We're hearing there's another proposal in the works for the parking lot beside the Janion. Will it be another long saga, too? We'll see.

No idea. But shouldn't they be jumping at this opportunity to revive the area with good lowrise projects? They aren't jumping. Some people are speculating about the hotel industry's concerns, some people are speculating about the city's casino dreams, etc.

Also, note the phantom lowrise building on the parking lot at Herald and Store Street. It appears in at least two of the renderings for Ironworks.

Nope, you weren't drunk, what happened was, I was going to respond to your post asking why the city seems reluctant to develop that part of town (which I did anyway) but after I quoted you I erased the quote and decided to just ask the question, the problem was, I was in the Admin Account, not my Phil McAvity account so after I deleted your quote I realized there was no way to bring your post back (SHIT!) so I had to ad lib your post as well as I could from memory so the bottom line is, I screwed up your post and while my intention wasn't to mess with you, it was still funny!

Now back to your regularly scheduled program:

The Songhees marina is coming along nicely but I could never understand why there was any controversy over it since it was supposed to be built all along and it creates jobs and stimulates the local economy but it seems some people just complain for the sake of complaining

Another shot from my top secret location:

Here's the one proposed for the parking lot on Store Street beside the Janion (4 levels facing Store St. and 7 or 8 on the water side):

How's the new Blue Bridge coming along? Has the first section shipped from China been installed?
