The thing that sets Nose Hill apart for me is the amount of climbing you can do, it's great training before hitting the mountains in the spring. Fish Creek is prettier, I love the greenery in that park. It's a pretty interesting contrast for 2 parks in the same city.

Figured this post was a good way to revive this thread. Quebec City and area look to have some of the best outdoor activities available east of the Rockies. I'm all about mountain biking and snowboarding, so this looks to be right up my alley!

Esquire posted about the new rink on Mosaic's football field. And it got me thinking about interesting public skating places. I found this thread. Don't know if a similar idea came up before but what are the most iconic, beautiful or interesting outdoor skating spaces in your region?

There's the obvious ones but I'll leave that up to people from those parts of the country to post.

^ That picture of the people skating on the lake with the city as backdrop is unreal. I would love to do that.

In Winnipeg, the go-to place is definitely The Forks. It has a couple of nice rinks and it's the hub of the river trail system.

Ian Fowler Oval on the plaza in front of the Avenir Centre in Moncton.

I snapped this picture on a winter morning last year, and nobody was skating (yet), but the oval has been busy this Christmas season despite the warm temperatures (the oval is refrigerated).

Nice to see these skating venues. Most it seems didn't even exist 10 years ago. Need some more excuses to get outside during the winter without having to go far. There's also a tonne of small rinks in every city around here in less interesting locations. Some are actually run by volunteers but most by the city.

It's like all the splash pads now. Any sizeable city or suburb it seems has double digit numbers of those spread out.

I wonder if there are any major cities that don't have an unofficial official outdoor skating venue with a nice backdrop and lit up at night.

The Forks started working on the river trail today!

And Invermere BC claims to have the longest ice skate thing in the world. Don't remember what it's called.

I've skied about 200km this year so far and absolutely love that we have 5 x-ski locations within Central Edmonton to choose from.

Just bought a snow skate. Perfect for those snowy in-town hilly alleys.
So fun as you can get some pop off the springy ski part to do actually olleys!

Living in Calgary, there was "city skating" DT at Olympic Plaza, at Bowness and all the cit lakes.
The best though was heading to the mountain lakes for skating.

My cousin was ice fishing on Lake Simcoe and saw some people doing it. He concurred that it was super cool and he wanted to try it.

Turns out this rink by the Falls didn't open this year after being open for a decade. It suffers operating losses historically apparently.

And one of the major cities that doesn't have an outdoor skating destination attraction is Hamilton, from what I can tell. No rink in front of City Hall with HAMILTON sign in the background or anything like that.
