I ran into those guys infront of ICON last fall. They were looking at moving into one of those spaces. I'd rather see them on 104....but i'm bias.

^ I'm willing to give these guys a chance. You're right about Julio's, though, it sucks.

If "authentic" mexican food is anything like the shitty "authentic" pizza they serve at Famoso I'll take the modern western reincarnation please.

Looks like it will be pretty authentic to me. Tacos al pastor, Pozole, corn tortillas are much more mexican than the tex-mex we usually get up here. Have to see when they open but the types of food they mention are much closer to what you buy from a questionable food stand in mexico city than the "spring break in cancun" menu of Julios'.

Edmonton's Mexican food is absolutely craptastic, so hopefully this Tres Carnales place will raise the bar (which won't be hard to do).

We recently also had Pizza at Ragazzi (on 82nd near Bonnie Doon) and it was good pizza too. Better than Famoso by far.

I don't mind that place either but don't be in a rush.

Pete's A Pie is the best za in town if you don't mind going out to the West End. Homemade sauces, hand-tossed crusts, and all fresh toppings. Best for pickup, though, as there's only a couple simple tables to sit at, which I'm assuming is to keep overhead down.

Famosa used to be OK, but no longer...

It's a sprinkle of cheese over a bunch of crushed up tomato chunks served over a soggy piece of bread.

Sure that's the way poor grape farmers made it 200 years ago, but much like how they appreciate how the modern twist on everything has made their life better, the modern twist on their food has also made it better.

If you guys like Ragazzi over Famoso then your cred is gone. I've had better frozen pizza than that.

Famoso Pizza is a specific type of pizza. You can get the same kind (and yeah, it's better) at Lombardi's in NYC. It's the oldest pizzeria on the continent. You either like the kind of pizza that Famosa makes, or you don't. For the kind of pizza it is, it's pretty good.

Ragazzi though? You guys have clearly never lived in a city with a lot of Italians in it. It is so meh.

As non-authentic as julios food is...i still love it, lol. Tons of vegetarian options cuz the owner or his wife or something is vegetarian. A bulldog and vegan chili is the perfect dinner. lol
