Aquariums and Zoos - A Photo Thread

This thread is dedicated to photos of aquarium and zoo buildings and exhibits, with an emphasis on their architecture rather their their inhabitants. Architecture of these specialized facilities includes traditional structures (usually more impressive in aquariums), themed structures (often for geographical interpretation), and landscape structures (such as simulated rock walls for naturalized containment).

It is an additive thread so feel free to post your own photos or others found on the web! It will probably be appreciated if posts clearly label what and where the aquarium or zoo is. The number of photos of each aquarium or zoo should probably be kept to the minimum that illustrate the project clearly in order to keep the thread lively and varied.

Oh man, I wish Austin could get a real aquarium. That would be sweet!

Geomorph, I'm impressed with your travels and photos, and also the perfect weather you encountered. Thanks for posting this great thread! I don't know which I enjoyed more...this or your museum thread.

Yeah, I wish we could get a real aquarium like that. I love the subject of marine biology. I grew up taking family vacations at the coast. I love the ocean and I'm fascinated by it.

If there is a more beautiful aquarium than this one, I have yet to see it:

Ch.G Ch.G, the original part of the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is indeed the most classically beautiful aquarium structure I have seen too! I can think of no other in the United States (certainly not any of the larger ones) that comes close. I think none of its early contemporaries even exist in their original structures anymore. Here are some more details of the historic part of the building:

That octopus light pendant is fantastic! That's original?

I believe all the Shedd's lobby light fixtures are original, including the octopus pendants, installed in 1929 for the aquarium's opening.
