Alabama's highway building has always been embarrasingly slow. Hop on over to Mississippi, and US 82 is built to freeway standard for the most of the state (and interstate standard in the vicinity of Starkville). Meanwhile, Alabama struggles to widen major intrastate highways after 50 years.
