Spokane airport upgrade continues with new fire station
Mike Prager The Spokesman-Review

A new fire station at Spokane International Airport is rising from the grassy flat southwest of the Alaska Airlines terminal.

The $8 million project will replace the existing fire station located northeast of the A and B concourses. Airport officials said the old station has reached the end of its useful life.

The 17,700-square-foot facility will have four equipment bays. It’s being built by Lydig Construction under a design by Integrus Architecture, both of Spokane.

While the new building appears to be located in a remote spot, it’s closer to the center of the main runway as well as the crosswind runway, said Todd Woodard, airport spokesman.

The new fire station will also work well for timely responses to a future third runway, included in the airport’s master plan.

Spokane Convention Center hotel under construction
http://www.hotelmanagement.net/inves...truction-25722

Construction is under way on a 15-story hotel across the street from the Spokane Convention Center.

The $50-million, 720-room hotel will be the largest in the city.

The hotel is expected to open in 2015. It is being built by the Davenport Hotel Collection, the Spokane company owned by Karen and Walt Worthy. The Worthys started work on the project in mid-August.

...The construction eliminated several hundred surface parking spots near the INB Performing Arts Center, the Convention Center and nearby businesses.

The $17.9 million project would include 201 apartment units, six luxury condominiums, and street-level commercial space.

Ron Wells, the Spokane real estate developer who specializes in rehabilitating historic buildings, says investor groups are close to securing a complex financing package to convert the long-vacant Ridpath Hotel downtown into a vibrant residential and commercial complex.

That hotel is massive for a city Spokane's size. It'll certainly help the convention center. Anyone know the metro room inventory? (I'm being lazy and not looking it up!)

I might be driving over that direction in a couple weeks; I'll try to take a couple photos of the hotel's progress.

oh- and there had been rumors that WSU was/is researching starting the state's second medical school in Spokane to compete with UW. That would be a great addition to Spokane's emerging U district.
