The site actually backs mostly into the Zack's Restaurant compound and an Aussie Bar that has frequent volleyball tournaments. The RunTex site is on the western edge and a bit of the southwest side of the Catherine site. The Catherine is kind of surrounded. At the corner of the Hyatt driveway is a two story commercial structure facing Barton Springs. I don't know what business is located there.

It's an odd fit, that's for sure. Still, ti's going to highlight how ugly that small office building is.

I give the developers kudos for maximizing an odd little niche of real estate.

The Catherine site would have gone un-noticed were it not for this project. Wonder why they did not try for a bigger footprint by getting their hands on one or both of the bar/restaurant parcels along Barton Springs?

I would have much preferred to see them develop the parcel at the foot of the Congress Ave bridge with this project. I am referring to the site that was once proposed as an 8 or 10 story apartment building, and a lot of opposition developed to the cheesy design proposal. This would have been back around 2006 or so. I wonder what will happen on that site.

There was also this project, which was envisioned for the Hyatt garage and ballroom site. The link says it was a 19-story tower.

It may not be the tallest, but this building may be changing perspectives of Austin more than any other building. We're so used to not seeing much south of the river, but this one is so big and wide that it's helping to create a sort of canyon effect with the river. It's already almost as tall at IBC Bank Tower and it's moving along very fast. Pretty exciting stuff. The Broadstone at the Lake project right next door is nothing to sneeze at either. That seems to be coming along nicely, too.

I wonder what it would take to convince Hyatt to remodel that old, ugly, bronze disaster of a building.

I agree with everything you said except the part about the Hyatt. I like the way it looks especially where its located.

Yeah, the Hyatt isn't so bad. I actually like the new paint and it does add to the skyline at night with the lighting.

I love the idea of the volleyball court being surrounded by buildings. Question, is that parking lot going to be used for redevelopment as I imagine parking could be leased from Katherine or maybe the new apt complex.

After viewing today's picture updates, and btw, thanks everyone, I am suffering from a overload of the senses.
