i think the height should easily be around 500ft because One Park Place has 37 floors and its 501ft...This is an office tower and the floors are higher, 31 floors plus the crown should put this at 500ft plus I would assume

You are correct in your assumption.

Not to be a party pooper but I'm more likely to believe that we're looking at something that's closer to 475 feet. Granted, that's not the magical "500 feet or higher" plateau but visually speaking they're won't be much difference.

The bigger news is that it's extending downtown more to the east.

Good stuff. Is the new "Discovery" Park leading to a new concentration of development in that area? Everytime I'm in Downtown Houston I'm struck by the sheer potential of developability, and it's great to see that there is still a drip-drip-drip of rising demand for Downtown space.

I would say that Discovery Green is the catalyst to bringing development to this zone between Houston Center & The GRB. This building's design interests me in that the plaza is intended to be a minor continuation of the park in terms of landscaping. Add in the placement of retail in the bottom two floors and it just seems to be a good deal of foresight since there is a also a residential tower being built just across the street which will have some retail in it's base.

To recap we have One Park Place, this tower, two proposed hotels on nearby and adjacent blocks and a second convention center hotel on the Rusk, Crawford, Walker & Avenida de las Americas Block. Right on the park and across from the convention center.

Here is a photo of the site from this afternoon. There are now 4 drilling rigs operating.

This report from KHOU last night profiled a few energy-efficient projects around the city, with Discovery Tower included.

It looks like the last series of piers are being drilled along the northwest corner(La Branch St.), and I think I saw the first part of a foundation wall already up in the pit along the south side (McKinney St).

Always with the quickness here.

This afternoon when I was in the park, I was watching the activity both here and at One Park Place. Just yesterday they were drilling here, and today there seemed to be a concrete pouring arm working in the excavation site along with two concrete trucks. First I've seen of the arm working on the site thus far.

Seems about right since the foundation walls are becoming more visible on each side of the site.

Something interesting worth noting is that Discovery Green is having an effect I think that we can all appreciate as SSP forumers. The last few times I've photographed this site, there seem to be more and more moms and dads pointing out things to their kids that love looking at the construction equipment in action. Getting kids and their parents interested in development at a relatively early stage... I just have a good feeling about the future of the area.

Anyway, here are some photos from just about each side of the construction site taken over the last couple of days.

Awesome pics...

Yeah it was great to see people all over the place in that area. I was thinking once there is more retail in One Park Place and the the new projects going on, the area is going to be amazing. This is a great catalyst. Very Kewl Times in the city...

Hello people. I talked to a rep for the project. We now have a height for the tower...

482 feet...

Not bad, it will be taller then 5 Houston Center, and just a bit shy of One Park Place. Still a good height for the area...

Way to scoop man!

The height is within the ballpark everyone was guessing in, and it seems to the size of choice that seems to be emerging on that side of DT. Neither too tall or short, just right I think.

I have to say it again, I don't think I've ever seen an office project move this quickly. This time about 2 months ago, the site was still a surface lot with the first equipment just being assembled. Wow!
