I'm surprised that such a huge project made it to the U/C section.
It'll be fun to watch it rise.

So, any news what's going to be in those huge top floors?
A soccer pitch?
Or an indoor golf course, perhaps?

I'm surprised too.

Anyway, this picture is a little late, a few days old but it's a good overview of the whole site.

The piles for the old tower design don't appear to line up exactly with the planned low and mid-rises to go on the perimeter of the site. I wonder if they'll remove them, or just saw them off at a certain depth and landscape over them.

Hmmm.. can't see the picture...

But that's a good question ardvark... I'm gonna be mega-pissed if they don't install solar panels!

most of the skyscrapers in dubai are very naff looking - this, however, is seriously stylish, a cutting edge modern design, elegant and distinctive. This is one Dubai mega project I actually hope they complete...

I’m quite baffled on how this one is moving forward considering its size; perhaps the company developing it is in good shape. Nonetheless it’s one of the more interesting projects I’ve seen come out of this city. A building like this in my mind achieves more of an iconic brand, as opposed to just building cookie cutters. Having this as sort of a ‘street divider’ as you’re driving off the Palm Island will make for one cool setting.

Well, considering that they had money for this for a while - if you remember, they were reasonably far along with the previous design when they demolished what they started to make way for the current design. This project is not as recent as it may seem.

Will the project be accessible by foot at all, or is it only accessible by car?

Am still not completely sure about this since it seems too big to be possible to build nowadays.

I’m happy to see at least this is moving forward seemingly well; to me at least it has ‘iconic’ written all over it. It’s just clearly going to be such a massive and impressive structure, and the location to emphasize that is great.

It seems as if anything with windows qualifies as an "icon" these days.

And that means what exactly?

It's going to be incredible when they get to the top and link not two, but FOUR towers. The construction tolerances have to be super clean here.

An incredibly interesting design. *suddenly reminded to check the status of that Sofdie project in Singapore linking 5 towers*

There could well be problems here. Has not had the progress we were expecting. I think this is one of those "too good to be true" type projects. It's just so big in terms of space, probably more than all the marina supertalls put together. In a crisis like this I think once off, smaller and more specialised projects can go ahead every now and again (like the pentominium) but a huge one like this?

The pictures show workers on site and concrete being poured, so it doesn't appear that the project is shut down completely yet. Slow doesn't always indicate financial troubles. But if the site shuts down, you can probably assume something's amiss.

Something's amiss? Hell, it's a miracle how such a massive and bloated project is progressing in such harsh real estate climate at all.

By the way, will the Pearl site only be accessible by car? It looks like it.

Am sure there will be some underground passages from surrounding areas (such as media city) but in general yes, that's what you get for building in the middle of a ring road.
