Building act on un-permitted building works has to be amended due to additional floors or structure building on existing buildings in Taiwan is often without structural calculation and approval. It becomes hazards for Taiwanese society. There is no guarantee these buildings can stand during earthquake.

The building I was talking about are the ones in the last video. houses with 2-3 floors max. If they have real historical value, they can be renew and reinforced to meet the safety standard. Again i will take Paris as an example because this is the city i know the best. There is still a lot of dangerous old building in Paris, at risk of collapsing or dangerous in case of fire. If the building is totally crap but is in an historical neighborhood, they will rebuild a brand new building but keep the old facade. Many building that you see have an hold historic facade but a modern construction behind. Paris is also a very densely populated city, it has no more room to grow, but it's not an excuse for them to not care about their historical building.

Xin yi district is really starting to look nice.
I heard that there is some plans to redevelop the Viewshow cinema block.
Williamchung Do you know anything about it?
It would make sense since thew land there is so expensive, an high density building could replace it.

I saw business news in other days. Viewshow has already decided to move to Farestern Xinyi Shopping Centre which is under construction after contract is over. The stakeholders and shareholders of this property are under trail for interest dispute. It is profitable to redevelop whole building, they have not yet fully used all flloor area umder current zoning act. So they definitely can build much higher building for more profit. BUT IT ONLY CAN HAPPEN AFTER TRAIL IS OVER.

Photo of the Day: Scooter waterfall in Taipei

Cascade of scooters on Minquan West Road in Taipei's Datong District

By Keoni Everington,Taiwan News, Staff Writer

2018/08/08 14:29

TAIPEI -- A Taiwanese-American captured this amazing photo of a tidal wave of scooters cascading down an exit ramp during rush hour in Taipei during her trip to Taiwan in July.

The photographer, Amaris Woo, a 20-year-old student, took the photo on July 30 on Minquan West Road in Taipei's Datong District. Nearly a week later, Woo posted the image on the social media site Reddit with the title "Scooter Waterfall in Taipei," soon garnering 195 upvotes and 50 comments.

This photo illustrates the fact that more than half of Taiwan's 23 million citizens own a scooter, with 13.66 million scooters in Taiwan in 2016, according to official government data.

Woo says that though it appears she took the photo in the middle of the street, she was actually standing on a nearby sidewalk.
