I am speechless. I watched the website and its going to be beautiful. Hopefully Union Row, Loews will all be built around the same time which is June of this year. Not quite sure about Loews but they have a deadline. One Beale is already moving. With the addition of all the hotel rooms we should be well over 5000 rooms for the NBA All Star game. Just throw in the Casino tower at Southland which would be a boom during the all star weekend.

I guess we're really booming now.

Edit: Also, anyone notice the palm trees on that?

I'm loving all the development downtown. It really has the potential to look like a completely different place in a couple of years.

I'm kinda skeptical about this one (specifically the hotel component), but with all of the other planned developments that have been announced over the last year along the southern portion of downtown, this is just another piece of the puzzle in making that area denser.

Has anyone done an official count on how many hotel rooms downtown has currently? I know the Loews, Hyatt, Canopy, Aloft, and this newly-planned Clipper hotel developments would add 1,300+ total rooms when all completed, but it would help to know what the current stock is at present between all of the existing ones (including those that were recently completed).

I would have to find it but around 4000. ALoft, Arrive and the hotel at the train station about to come on board.

Blue Monkey developers to start mixed-use project

Quote:
Construction may soon start Downtown on a three-story, mixed-use building with a ground-floor deli restaurant and four apartments above.

The $1.6 million building will rise at 529 S. Front next to the Blue Monkey, according to a building permit application filed this week.

The site is 0.6 acres at the vacant, northwest corner of Front and G.E. Patterson.

One Beale progress

Was driving downtown down Front Street over the weekend and dirt is moving in the area where the apartments are rising and they have started tearing down the old Carlisle office building.

The image still has the old gas station across the street. I believe it has been a modern looking Orion credit union for some time.

Le Bonheur plans $38M expansion of Heart Institute
Two-story building will be erected in front of hospital
By Tom Bailey/ Daily Memphian

Quote:
The expansion totals 70,500 square feet. The announcement comes less than a year after Le Bonheur started a $16 million expansion and renovation of its emergency department, and nine years after erecting its newest, $340 million main facility with 255 beds... Le Bonheur serves as a primary teaching affiliate for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, training more than 350 pediatricians and specialists each year.

New York developer buys Pinch District parcels, with eye toward large development

Was hoping to see some movement in the Pinch-- this sounds like a step in the right direction.

"New York developer Tom Intrator has purchased three Pinch District properties: 400 N. Front St., 429 N. Main St., and 396 N. Main.
Intrator said Tuesday he has no plans currently in place for the properties. However, he is targeting multiple other Pinch District properties for purchase and is planning a large, multi-use development in the district, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
“While we see great potential, there are no plans currently in place regarding our properties in the Pinch, but we will pay close attention to the 2016 Pinch Concept Study by LRK for the City of Memphis as a guide to future development of the area,” Intrator said.
Intrator is the developer behind 18 S. Main's renovation and is the new owner of Downtown's Royal Furniture store building.

Tall hotel will be East Memphis landmark
Tom Bailey/ Daily Memphian 3/12/19

"The structure at 5625 Poplar would be the tallest building along the 1.5-mile section of Poplar between the 34-story Clark Tower and the expressway. The tallest there now, Trustmark Centre, is nine stories."

"The hotel will be a dual-brand hotel. Aman and Purohit’s AP Hospitality Group Partnership is negotiating with both Marriott and Hilton. No matter which hotel company becomes part of the deal, the guest rooms will be split between two branded hotels, Aman said.

The project will cost from $18 million to $28 million to build, Maynard said.

There are plans for an attached, 180-space parking garage behind the hotel, which will be pulled up close to the south side of Poplar.

The roof will likely feature a bar or restaurant. The perch will allow views “all the way to Shelby Farms,’’ Aman said."

Hoping for Glass on this building. Keep in mind that Loeb will be developing that property on Poplar and S Yates rd. Should hear something later this year. That plus this hotel will change that stretch on Poplar to 240

Former Binghampton warehouse now home to thriving indoor skatepark
COLE BRADLEY | High Ground News

Quote:
Society Skatepark and Coffee opened at 583 Scott Street in an industrial area a block off of Broad Avenue. The space includes 10,000 square feet of indoor ramps and rails for skateboards, BMX, scooters and quad skating. Massive murals line the walls and music mixes with the sound of speeding wheels. The course’s crown jewel is its 10-foot vertical ramp, one of only a handful of that size in the country... Customers are first greeted by a 5,000-square-foot retail space. To the right of the entrance, gleaming skateboards and stylish sneakers line the walls of Contact Skateboard Shop owned by Zac Roberts. To the left is Society’s cafe with its rich wood bars, countertops and tables built by Wrage.
