^ I just adore 111W! The design, cladding, setbacks, height, ... it screams New York on every level.

Finance firm in talks over Vornado’s jumbo skyscraper

It’s déjà vu all over again. Financial firms are in talks with Vornado Realty Trust for its proposed 3-million-square-foot jumbo skyscraper known as 15 Penn Plaza, which would replace the dowager Hotel Pennsylvania on Seventh Avenue.

“Morgan Stanley is looking very hard at [15] Penn Plaza,” our Midtown spy reported.

According to another scout, Vornado is presenting new building designs and not just the original 1,216-foot- tall Pelli Clarke Pelli design that passed New York City muster a decade ago.

“Steve Roth understands space and architecture better than most developers and, if he was going to restart the project, any tenant that size would be part and party to that design,” explained another source, referring to Vornado’s chief executive.

“It’s not just the look and feel of it, but does someone want AC under the floor and not on top? Whoever the tenant is will have ideas of their own. It’s a big, beautiful building with large floor plates in the base that would be great for collaboration,” the source said.

After a question from an analyst on Vornado’s May 2 conference call, Roth said, “There is stuff going on with the Hotel Pennsylvania and stuff going on with 2 Penn.”

This tower was never dead. Merrill Lynch signed a letter of intent a few years ago, but decided not to go forward during the financial crisis, but Vornado was always looking for an anchor tenant.

If Merrill had signed the lease a few months earlier, we would be looking at this new tower now. It was just really bad timing, so the tower was put on hold.

Anyways, great news. Would love to see Morgan Stanley anchoring this new tower.

Demo permits filed for the parcels at 80 South Street and 163 Front Street.

Essentially where this thing is slated to rise.

The goldish one is 45 Broad and the one on the far right is 80 South St (design is still unknown). Very nice rendering by Thomas btw.

The architectural drawings haven't been updated though...

For the skyscraper buffs. Long, but good to have in background to hear. Insightful with respect to threats to skyscrapers.

Thursday, May 18, 2017. Chicago, United States of America. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) and the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) held the second of the four-part “Building Tall” series, continuing the momentum established by the first event just two months prior. This second event, which was kindly sponsored by Olsson Fire & Risk, focused the conversation on “Securing Tall,” posing the question: What is the Biggest Threat to a Skyscraper?

To attempt an answer, the event brought together a diverse group of experts representing different avenues of skyscraper security, including fire engineering, structural engineering, architecture / climate, and academia. Each panelist delivered a rapid-fire presentation before engaging in a lively dialogue with each other and the audience. Panelists included Simon Lay, Director, Olsson Fire & Risk; Don Davies, President, Magnusson Klemencic Associates; Nicole Dosso, Director, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), and CTBUH Executive Director Dr. Antony Wood, who moderated the event.

Congrats. You've earned it. Thats no easy feat. Hell, most people can't even handle Calc 2.

Math is pure logic. Have to understand it, the basics, the roots and principles behind it to get the complex stuff... then, in theory, it's quite easy as you well know. Was a fan of differentials; the branch of math that science is heavily reliant on.

Right now a lawsuit between the broker and the parcel purchaser Kuzinez. Just some litigation bullcrap, but I think it will pass, and the tower will rise. It's in a prime location.
