Extraordinary pic! Thanks for sharing.

I like very much the Repsol Tower, despite some comments against it.

The Espacio tower is now over 190m tall, and the repsol and sacyr at about 160m

How do the people in Madrid feel about the new towers ?
Do they reject them as an unwelcome intrusion or are they proud of the modern image of their city ?

There´s a huge split in public opinion about them. Some people, like me, are proud of them and happy that Madrid will achieve a more modern image as a city. However there is a large portion of the population that are still very much against them. I´ve seen several graffitis saying "CTBA Towers= Urban terrorism". Also in general many elderly people are against them.

Apart from these towers Madrid is spending a lot of money in modernising itself as a whole (thanks to mayor Gallardon) which I am also in favour of, despite probably 5 years of noisy machinery and blocked roads- not to mention the increased taxes we are all going to have to pay. However I think this is necesary to put Madrid up to the standards of more modern capitals in the world and improve the image of Spain worldwide, which I get the feeling many still think all of Spain looks like Andalucia in 1950.

Theres been so much public rebelion against all this building and roadworks that they are showing a lot of ads to try to remedie this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBWEhE_Osl4

This one´s quite intesting, showing Madrid about 80-100yrs ago, saying "What would happen if nothing ever happened?"

I must say I'm not surprised.
Hopefully, the general opinion will be more positive at the end of the constructions.

if operacion chamartin is aproved they might get up to 15 friends on the other side, but it seems that if this happends itl still be a decade till we see it all..

At least further up the street near the slanted kio towers theyre already knocking down some really old ugly buildings to build nicer stuff.

Espacio hits 200m! Not much left till its 225m, its now the tallest skyscraper (non com tower) in Spain- untill it gets beaten by the other 3.

It is oficial now that they will construct a new palace of congress in between the 2 central towers, I hope Calatrava takes care of that one.

Good.
The complex will have more density and will be more integrated.

This thread is in the wrong subforum. Should be in Construction, not Proposals.

The forums were just split, and we are still migrating threads... The thread's creator did nothing wrong.

The cristal and sacyr towers are now beggining to really show off their glass panels, giving an idea of what theyl look like.

The Repsol tower is suposed to start with the windows in a week or two, so hopefully itl look a lot better then.
