Flying forms have been constructed and Tower level 2 has been poured. Looks like they are finishing flying the forms up for Tower level 3 (5th storey).

The Burnside News had a photo of an accident on Windmill Road today and they accidentally grabbed us an update for this project. Judging by the almost daily accidents on the road we could keep on getting accidental updates like this!

I'm staying out at my mom's in Royale Hemlocks (she lives in one of the condo buildings along Bedros Lane) and whenever I'm driving the Bedford Highway or sitting out on the little grassy area by her building Wright's Cove always amazes me. It totally stands out now (not as much as Bedros Lane does from across the Harbour), but you get the idea.

Frankly, it screams to me as an area for new job growth as part of a visioning exercise. The office area just above it on off Windmill and Akerley could become a Transit-oriented employment hub with some taller office towers which could help support a fast ferry to the area?

Did you say you were looking for a job back here in NS? If you get one and I hope you do, I share the same vision for this area.

I did say that and have applied - we will see how it goes. I have to say that while this project isn't a lot of major towers, I'm quite impressed with it. HRM developers are really getting the motto of 'slow and steady' wins the race. These comprehensive projects give a lot of density with a range of mid/high rise...particularly trying to create a sort of village atmosphere.

Although the one building pictured would actually fall into a 'highrise' since we typically define midrise to be up to 12 stories (I counted 14). But even at 14; a few of those will be good. The other thing is that this creates a good pocket of density - if there was some visioning in the area, it could become a fast ferry transit hub with some suburban offices or more mixed use across the street.

NEW WEBSITE IS UP!

http://www.harbourisle.ca/

There is a rendering for a new 16-storey condominium building "Coming Soon". They also have the overall site plan and a rendering for Magazine Landing.

I have to say I really enjoy these comprehensive applications, where it isn't just about one or two buildings but building a neighbourhood. This and King's Wharf are a great start - hopefully Shannon Park will be an amazing new one, along with Mill Cove and Main Street. Penhorn too - crazy to think we could have 4 or 5 of these going in the next few years.

It seems like a nice development but I wish it were in a better location where it could complement an existing neighbourhood and where there might be a possibility of better transit and lower car use. Everybody in this neighbourhood will drive whenever they want to leave their 4x4 block area, which will be most days.

Thank you for the picture kph06. Luckily the precast looks much lighter than in the rendering. So far the actual building is turning out much better than the rendering. The rendering looked like a brutalist design that was dark and dreary - http://www.harbourisle.ca/sites/all/...apartments.jpg
