2012 Transportation Mock Survey

In 2012 voters will go to the polls in metro Atlanta to decide if a one cent sales tax should be levied for transportation projects. As we know, everyone will want roads built, but some rail and bus projects will be front and center.
Let’s get ahead of the voters by conducting a mock survey of possible RAIL projects that hopefully will be part of the solution to metro Atlanta’s infamous traffic nightmare.
If the metro area fails to agree on a number of key transportation solutions, the measure put before the voters will NOT pass, and we’ll be stuck in gridlocked traffic for the foreseeable future.
The voters must think on a regional scale (of U-N-I-T-Y), and not my county dollars versus your county dollars… So, let see what the forumers think about the best solutions for addressing Atlanta’s traffic by choosing the most viable RAIL solutions.

I voted for MARTA into Clayton county via the airport for several reasons.
1. Clayton county residents are more likely to vote to join MARTA more so than any other metro county due to the high percentage of minorities residing in Clayton county.
2. MARTA rail would come along with MARTA buses, restoring the lost service provided by MARTA via C-Tran.
3. MARTA buses would funnel Henry and Fayette county residents to MARTA rail stations (within Clayton county) from bus routes that extend to the Henry and Fayette county lines.
4. The Clayton county MARTA line would be a gateway for southsiders (south of the airport) to travel to the airport without having to drive to the airport, which would alleviate traffic congestion on the southside.
5. MARTA would have a NEW source of INCOME generated by a 1 cent sales tax levied by Clayton county residents.

Any thoughts???
