The highest and best use of that prime land is making popcorn! That seems funny to me.

^ That's what I mean by 'underused', I mean it's a charming Winnipeg thing that we have a candy and popcorn factory a block away from the main business intersection. Guy Maddin must surely be proud of that curious idiosyncrasy. But it's not really what would generally be considered highest and best use of the land.

Speaking of, what's going on with the hotel project for Portage E.? Looking at site plan for the innovation centre, I was squinting my eyes trying to see if the proposed expansion of the building in question shows up there. It sort of looks like it does to my eyes.

Damn.

I loved that stuff as a kid in the early '70s. I noticed it recently at Food Fare ad bought a bag for old time's sake. As it turned out, as near as I can tell, it was on the shelf since the '70s.

I'm guessing it isn't a high turnover product

I'm tellin' ya, they need to put up signage at the sports venues, get Kyle Connor or Moe Leggett to endorse the product, and watch sales quintuple. (Whether or not that would pay for the rinkboard/sideline ads, I have no idea)

They actually sell quite a vast array of products, in addition to pink popcorn: http://www.scottbathgate.com/ScottBa.../Products.html
They've been around since 1903 and have a presence across the western provinces. Head office is on Pioneer. I'm surprised we don't have a sports team called the Nutty Clubs.

can these posts be deleted for being off topic? has nothing to with the development... unlike the politics of land use and corporate development.

I think it's totally on topic given the relationship between the Nutty Club man and the Richardson Lab, how it was designed with the idea of respecting the idea and presence of the Nutty Club man.
You're the one who started talking about overthrowing the Richardson's and distributing their $$ to the masses. That's no more on topic.

It really is nice to have such a short period of time between project announcement and construction starting. The two year+ delay for most of our larger projects can be frustrating.

I'm excited to see this one start...I can't even remember the last time I physically walked up Westbrook street (or even if I ever have haha). Such a forgotten little part of downtown.

It's a vastly higher and better use than surface parking, though, so until every other lot in that area has been built up, I'll continue to be happy that Nutty Club is there. It's sort of Winnipeg's equivalent of the Redpath sugar factory that continues to operate in downtown Toronto.
