Nice pictures!

You would also be interested in Carlisle, PA. There was a Civil War skirmish there after the Confederates marched into town. The old courthouse has pockmarks from the artillery shells.

I haven't been to Georgetown in about 15 years, so I don't remember what it looks like, but I can see the natural similarities with Alexandria (and even a little bit of Annapolis).

I'm surprised that you only have one picture of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. It's a huge church, and even some of the basement chapels are noteworthy in their own right.

I love the DC government interiors!

I only have one picture because the security people there were the biggest pieces of crap I've ever dealt with in a church. I had my tripod but wasn't using it and one of the d bags came up to me and stepped on my shoes and got about 6 inches from my face and told me I couldn't use my tripod so I said ok. Then I asked the priest if it was ok to use my tripod and he said yes so I used it after the service and then the same security guard came up and kicked my tripod and got right up in my face and told me I had to leave. I so wanted to punch him in the face.

Great pics! DC is one of my favorite cities, I have always had a connection to it and spent a week there recently and it reinforced how much I enjoy it. I love Philly for sure but can still see myself living in DC.

I love DC too but the traffic and getting around is a freaking nightmare. Next time I go Im going to bring my bike for sure, getting around by car is very impractical.

Great pics. DC has some ridiculously gorgeous architecture. It's almost as if it's the HQ of a wealthy empire!

Ever been to the Paw Paw Tunnel? If not, take the detour there on your way to Williamsburg from Pittsburgh. It will probably only add 30 minutes of driving time to your trip, plus however long you spend there. And that route would then take you through Winchester and Warrenton on the way to catch I-95 in Fredericksburg. All three of those towns would be nice visits and good photo opps.

I've been to the Paw Paw Tunnel a couple of times, as well as Winchester, which is another beautifully well preserved very historic town.

I think they have had that no-tripod rule for a long time. I remember it from when I was a kid. You may be able to get around it if you work on the connections with the priests again, or find a connection in the CUA.

Nice. DC has a cool European feel which was seen in a few of your shots.

Never a dull moment in your photo threads. Most of these photos elicited an audible "wow!" or "oooh!"

I once got accidentally locked in the top portion of the National Cathedral while stealing some skyline photos from the bell tower. That's a fun memory. I proposed to my wife at the Lincoln Memorial during a blizzard - another pretty good memory.

Similarly, the Pope is no fan of selfie-sticks.
