“I am pleased to announce the return of a foreign carrier to our family of airlines,” said G. Hardy Acree, Sacramento County Airport System Director of Airports. “All Mexican city pairs have had strong passenger support and Aeromexico understands the strength of our market.”

That's great news! I know that there are a lot of travelers to Guadalajara from Sacramento. It'll be nice to have another travel option that doesn't involve stopping in Phoenix

This is definitely good news for Sac International!! I hope Aeromexico will be successful here in Sac, and maybe add more destinations in the future!! I've also heard a rumor about Volaris possibly coming to Sac. Has anyone heard anything about that?

Here is a video about the RED RABBIT art piece for the Landside Central Terminal at SMF. It's over a year old, so I'll look for more about the progress so far.

SMF Latest

The grand opening of the new Terminal B will be a month ahead of schedule with the first flight taking place on October 6th at 5:50am rather than November as it was originally slated.

They are in the final stages of prep work including testing water pressure when multiple airlines arrive at the same time and restrooms see an influx in customers and poo poo.

Free tour of the new terminal will take place on Sunday, October 2nd. To sign up for tickets, click here

I'm in town for two weeks and managed to get a hold of a ticket for the art event. Terminal B is very impressive, exceeded my expectations. I took a few pictures with my iPhone of the art inside. Enjoy.

The infamous "Red Rabbit." 7 tons, they moved it in via block of ice.

Interactive artwork. The images change as the elevator goes up and down. The animations are seasonal, and change depending on the time of day.

Bird cages.

More art

Not sure what's going on out here.

Open space.

The people mover. Hang on!

Oak tree chandelier. Designed to look like the propellers of an airplane. I wouldn't want to be under this when SF has an earthquake.

I didn't get a full shot of this interactive trombone/trumpet.

International baggage claim.

I went to the public open house a few weeks back. Was very impressed myself. Design and functionality appear to be top notch, and I hope that has translated well into its operation. Anyone here flown out of the new terminal yet?

I haven't had a chance to fly in yet, but a buddy of mine did last week to visit his family. I had warned him ahead of time that he'd probably be landing at the new terminal so he knew what to expect. But he told me several people from his flight walked off the jetway, kind of looked around all confused, and then went up to the gate agent and said that they think their plane landed at the wrong airport. I got a kick out of that.

Great photos Ryan.

My family and I will be flying out of the new terminal in December. I will give you my professional option then.

We have family that lives in Dallas and every year they fly into SMF and they laugh at what an old terminal we have. Glad to see they spared no expense to make it first class!

Sac County hopes to lure Virgin America to airport by upping incentives

Sacramento Business Journal
By Melanie Turner
Monday, April 9, 2012

"Attempting to attract low-fare airline Virgin America Inc. to Sacramento International Airport Sacramento International Airport, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors is set Tuesday to consider a three-fold increase to its incentive program.

Airport officials have been in discussions with Burlingame-based Virgin America for the past several months regarding adding service between Sacramento and Los Angeles. The airline proposes three daily round-trip flights between Sacramento and Los Angeles International Airport using Airbus A320-200 aircraft, which seat 149 passengers.

The aim of Virgin America, which began service in the United States on Aug. 8, 2007, is to offer low fare, high quality service between major cities..."
