The places that have opened up aren't your regular run-of-the-mill establishments, I would consider them boutique with the intent of filling in a demand from the young up-and-coming Edmontonians that are looking for these interesting places...niche, Corso 32, MRKT, Lit, etc...

I really like mrkt, but i dont like they they expect you to tip but they don't even bring your tray out to you when its ready. They just throw it on the counter and you have to ckeck the number to see if its yours or not. If they want a tip, they should actually do something for it: ie. delivering your food to the table.

Also...refering to yourslef in third person = douche-y. In mcc16's opinion anyways.

Did I read correctly on C2E that Shade 105 has been turned into a strip club for female patrons? The thread there is locked for some silly reason.

Went to market for dinner last weekend and I thought it was great. Prefered it over The Marc.

Nope. Top_Dawg kinda liked C2E.

But 'parently C2E had enough of Top_Dawg.

After all who can deny that many of them are quite sterile, condescending and a wee bit full of themselves. And Top_Dawg has never played well with those type. His obedience school report cards say as much. He's the type who doesn't take himself too seriously. Just likes a few laughs.

Sadly too many failed to share his sense of humour and made a big deal of it.

So Top_Dawg got and told to .

And all is good over there once again.

Yeah, Top_Dawg hears ya.

But in Top_Dawg's experience these places draw far less of those young up-and-cumers than many perceive.

They draw mostly those who desperately want everyone to think they are young up-and-comers.

And so another trendy boutique type place opens up. Now these cornholios have to be seen there. And rave about the $35 asparagus spear and slice of mango.

Smeared with some kind of glaze.

Or is that demi-glaze ?

How the puck would Top_Dawg know.

Ultimately the credit card debt piles up, they and some get smarter.

'Course some never do.

That's why it isn't long before most of these places can't meet the rent.

Luckily Top_Dawg was raised in poverty and never felt compelled to impress those who matter little with some sort of faux epicurean B.S.

He slurps cheap beer at many of the run-of-the-mill hovels that have been around for decades.

Some call him .

But for him it works.

Now Top_Dawg feels like he has to tip the yokel at Taco Hell when he tumbles in at quarter to two in the morning.

And after last Friday night when Top_Dawg's poodle buddy snatched him by the ears and forced his ugly snout where he didn't want to put it - he does feel rather douche-y.

'Course now all the 124th Street social engineers will blame the deadbeat daddy banks and jack shacks for killing the gallery.

Holy shit, man. That's some good material. And very astute, too.

Nevertheless the better half and I are finally dragging our Epicurean asses to the newly re-opened Bistro Praha this weekend. Has anyone been back since it re-opened? Is it still as awesome as before?

Wicked. Duchess is a great, great addition to 124 Street. Can't wait to try out the new joint.

Never went to it before the fire but I like the new location. As for the food and atmosphere, it's pretty nice.

Thanks all. I'll provide a mini-review on Monday (so as to do it on company time )

OK, here goes:

Went to Bistro Praha Friday night. Excellent meal. Nothing flashy, just great Central-Eastern European down-home cooking, like mom used to make. My girlfriend and I both had the wiener schnitzel cordon bleu, and it was even better than I remembered. The escargot appies were pretty good, too, and the desserts looked awesome (me, I just had a glass of brandy for dessert but the better half had some kind of yummy looking crepe concoction).

They have retained a lot of the original atmosphere, including the mural on the wall. Good to see.

Only complaint was that it was SO busy, packed to the rafters (then again it was Friday night), and the service suffered a little bit as a result. They may have to bring in more staff, or reduce seating as the tables were jammed together.

Great to see this E-town instutition back up and running.

x2

Yeah is it ever busy.

Top_Dawg was trotting by the CIBC a couple of Friday's ago and he glanced over.

' Packed to the rafters ' is right.

And it was only about six bells or a little bit after.
