Excavation for this project began in September 2016 while Icon began in January 2016. But ya, it's slow moving and took for ever to get started.

July 2008 was when the idea was first proposed. Any planned building or infrastructure are dubbed 'plan' or 'proposal' until shovels begin digging, just like planning to have a kid is not actually having a kid.

Your office has an amazing view! Too bad it will be blocked sooner than later.

I wonder if this will impact CTV's famous view they use as a backdrop for Power Play.

It would have to I think. Not sure what floor CTV is on but the two towers are around the same height (both 17 floors).

Gives you an idea of how high the Power Play studio is relative to Sparks. Is Power Play in WEP 1 or 2? Both towers (re and WEP 2) might both have about the same number of floors, but office buildings have higher floor plates. I think Power Play might be just above re's final height.

the flag in the bottom of the frame is on the old US embassy on wellington, which is directly in front of both WE2 (east tower) and RE. The glass curtain wall windows in the studio imply to me it's not on the top 2 floors.

I really don't see how the view wouldn't be blocked if I am correct and the studio is in WE2 at the 15th floor or below.

If it's any consolation, with the centre block rehab coming up it probably wont be that great a view for the foreseeable future.

glazing has started on the Queen Street side! At first glance, the glazing looks a lot like WEP (ie. its green) but once you get closer you can tell its a little bit more clear...

I love the quality exteriors and glazing we are seeing on buildings in the more prominent/visible areas of downtown (Flaherty, 150Elgin, Re, EDC). It goes to show that we can do something nice when we want! Too bad most of our tall towers the last couple of years have been condos with relatively cheap-looking exteriors (see Lebreton, Mondrian, all of Rideau St). I guess economics just don't justify the cost in this town

I agree Rideau and LeBreton (and pretty much any Claridge) look bad, but I'm quite fond of Mondrian.

I should be more specific for Mondrian. I owned a condo and lived there for 3 years. The glass (including the red panels) is pretty well done but the "stuccoish" material an green glass around the parking structure should be a crime. The original renderings showed a white-colour to the parking glass and looked much more in keeping with the rest of the building.

Can't say I hate it, but I could see where you're coming from.
