Yes, it became bulkier on the lower floors because that's what the future occupants (Time Warner) wanted. Also the tower was increased in size. I always suspected that Related didn't transfer any of the development rights from the railyard towards 55 like Extell had planned to do in order to utilize them here. Extell planned a larger tower at the 55 site, and like all of the developments in the rezoned district, full development potential is reached by transferring development rights from the railyards. The only tower so far that's not as large as it could be is 55.
Still, 50 Hudson and the Spiral are both towers of the same size as 30, but obviously use larger floorplates throughout.
