the design seems to have been compromised a bit in the new version when it got shrunk. height aside, i think it would have been even better. hard to imagine though.

Yeah.. the only flaw is the loss of 200FT from the original design thanks to Amanda Burden and the City Planning commission..

DAMN SHAME.. especially considering her reasoning for doing it and now 3 towers on 57th are going 200 to 300 ft taller then the tower verre's original 1250ft!!

That's one thing about the new design, I think the proportions are better, but the design was of such high quality that the taller version was better than pretty much anything coming. Even at the taller height though, it would have been surpassed in height by the other newcomers.

Construction's actually moving at a nice pace … just a fascinating structure to watch rise.

Very quickly given the complexity of the form work.

yeah good to put up the old and the new renders. its not really about the height, more about the original elegance. it lost its spidery thinness with the shrinkage. it would have been a bit more gothamy addams familyish. ha. still amazing though.

I can't get enough of this building, even at this phase. I've been looking, unsuccessfully, for a model of it.
