ColDay-- this battle will have to be fought in person!

Saint Louis, the larger city and metro, will win

Cincinnati: 78 square miles, old ass city
St. Louis: 62 square miles, old ass city

Logic dictates that Cincinnati will probably have a larger base of architecture and "commercial corridors" if we're strictly talking "size." Cincinnati became a city in 1802; St. Louis in 1822. Founding is irrelevant, but that's quite obvious (re: Charlotte or Sault Ste. Marie).

Both have around the same city population (the mid 300,000's). Metro is irrelevant as I'm sure folks in West Chester and Chesterfield aren't as willing fill those commercial corridors versus those living, you know, in the city.

But hey, what do I know...I'm in a city with over 40 NBD's (Neighborhood Business Districts) .

^Yeah, but St. Louis has more people living in its 61 sq. miles than Cincy does in its 78 sq. miles.

Saint Louis, 1950: 857,000 - 61 sq. miles

Cincinnati, 1950: 504,000 - 78 sq. miles

This is a no-brainer. You need another tour!

...so do I.

It has what, 19,000 more? And with generally 1/3 of the city being "gone," there goes a 1/3rd of your commercial space already removed. I think it's more impressive for a city with slightly smaller population to have more vibrant commercial districts than a slightly larger one with a few, but hey, what do I know.

And just an FYI, Cincinnati was not 78 square miles back in the 1950's + 1940's urban renewal which St. Louis did not experience until later in life shifted Cincinnati's population early into the suburbs. I don't need to show that classic photo I always show of Queensgate getting wiped out in 1951 but it's a shame, that's for sure.

Hey, I'm sticking like pot!

God, I miss the days of 2003. All we need is Terry/Arch City and Montecarloss and it's all good.

Trust me I not trying to start anything, but St. Louis was settled in 1703 founded in 1764 and became a city in 1822 only because Missouri didn't become a state until 1821.

Cincinnati was settled in 1788, incorporated in 1802 and became a city in 1819.Ohio became a state in 1802.

Like you said founding is irrelevant, but St. Louis is the older city.

Older city, no. Older place of occupation, sure. Sault Ste. Marie is older than both yet I would hardly call it an "older city." But it's irrelevant as both grew up around the same time and it's splitting hairs.

STL IS amazing. I moved to STL in the 90's and it truly is a big CITY. It feels like a city and acts like a city. There is MORE nice in STL than there is bad and the urban fabric continues to revitalize. I just came back from Brooklyn, NY and I swear the look is soooo the same.

Matt, you are so speaking the truth, brotha. This city was built to be one of the best-- out-of-towners are blown away by the culture and architecture of our city. STL packs a punch.
