No I don't think that will be happening. They have started pile driving so they have actually started constructing the hole

Once the construction of the pit is nearing completion they will start pouring concrete for the foundation. That's when. You know that

Could be just site cleanup. Anyway, you don't need a permit to dig a hole. They haven't started building anything and that is why this thread is still "proposed".

Umm you need to reread what I wrote

I know it's still proposed and will be until concrete is poured. I never said anything different

I also know what pile driving looks like and that's what they are doing. I'm 98% sure. So in other words the site or pit is under construction. (I never said the building is under construction. I said the pit was) Excavating a site is a huge construction undertaking btw

In what City do you not need a permit to dig a hole?...You need a permit to remove drywall from a building...let along dig a hole.

There's a requirement for an anchor rod permit to stabilize an adjacent sidewalk and roadway:

That whole half block is pretty well level now with some remnants of foundations remaining to be broken up and removed. Some new hoarding is up along Pacific.

What I'm curious about is how they go ahead with excavations for two large projects side by side. Wouldn't one have to go well ahead of the other?

Now that's a nice and interesting historical aerial - thanks! West End sure was prominent area back in the 70s. Those butt-ugly concrete towers look huge in contrast to the low-rises and are much more visible as the area is not as overgrown as it today is (which I do like).

Pano of site.

Source: me

Same deal as next door (1300-1320 Richards St), you can see one shot-crete level of excavation done, but will their excavation plans meet up with their development permit, or will there be a gap? Neither currently has a meeting scheduled on the development permit board calendar.

Some pics from today. In the last pic the excavation for 1300-1320 Richards is in the foreground, Charleson is in the background.

March 14 '15, all my pics
