So you think St. Louis is just what you see on the news

There's probably no other city in America with a more damaged reputation than St. Louis these days. Contrary to the picture the national media paints, much beauty and pride exists in the Red Brick Mama. Here's an honest glimpse of my favorite city.

i was just going to say arent we overdue for some saint loo instagramization?

so nice. i think maybe grass bldg is the winner here today.

btw stl is not getting the press for the racist business, fwiw i notice they only say ferguson this and ferguson that, which i think is actually fair of the media for once.

The rowhouse styles are incredible - very early 19th Century to pre-depression 20th.

Thanks for this collection of vintage St. Louis photos. I'm sure the city has made great strides since the depths of the 1970s.

STL looks great, especially with all those rowhouses. It'd be great to see some of the hipster/"youth" influx and overload to LA, NY, SF, Portland, etc., make its way to St. Louis.

Yeah, it's true that without the cars the pics could pass off as from the '70s!

Super nice set!!!
St. Louis has really got to find a way to "stabilize" all those boarded up buildings so that they can last until those areas start to gentrify a bit... regardless of the time it takes...

Very interesting...how far back in time do some of these pictures go?

My impression is that they're all pretty new... I'm curious to hear the answer from the OP

Some, of course (showing one or two buildings only and no vehicles) could easily be from anytime during the last four decades...

And others can be even more misleading, like that brick fourplex with a red Oldsmobile Delta 88 coupe (with standard wheels and one original hubcap). The car's obviously not brand new, but the pic could have been taken in 1990.

Ahhh, August 2014. Those were the good old days. A loaf of bread used to cost a nickel back then.

Yep. The good old days, back when properties in the US used to cost the asking price in Canadian dollars. A bygone era.

Thankfully I don't watch the news and I already knew St. Louis was awesome.
