Left an India Beer (alcohol water, basically... it's one of our plain local macros... same recipe as what would be labelled Keith's or something elsewhere, I'm sure, it's all the same company) on my windowsill all day. Hot sun. Even now, it's been dark for hours, and the beer is hotter than the bottle itself.

It tastes like the IPAs Marty and Ayreonaut rave about. Has that same skunky grassy, pine taste/smell. They'd probably love it.

If you believe that Keith's is an authentic 'India Beer' then you may believe that WWF is not staged.

Hahaha. It's just a brand name. The logo is a Newfoundland dog.

Why would you leave a beer in the sunlight all day? UV-oxidation of beer is nasty as fuck. Definitely doesn't taste like an IPA though. More of a wet cardboard flavor. Happens almost instantly if you're drinking a beer in a clear glass outside on a sunny day.

Though at the same time, that was a can of India. Probably just really warm more so than oxidized. It already tastes like garbage, tasting slightly more like garbage isn't much of a reach

One thing to keep in mind is that I've found in QC (at least in Gatineau) the price of beer at a dep is before tax and deposit. Prices in Ontario at the Beer Store include both. There is a price difference in Quebec (especially on swill) but it isn't as big as the dep's will promote.

I'd say there is still around a 10 dollar difference in the price of a case of 24 Stella Artois, for example, between Costco in Gatineau and The Beer Store.

St. John's Mill Street pub already has a second St. John's only beer on tap. The Capelin Hound IPA. No idea what it's like.

I should buy a few growlers and go downtown and pick up a few fills.

I find the savings in Quebec compared to Ontario are greatest on big name brand imported beers. For example Stella Artois, Heineken, Corona, Dos Equis.

The brewing companies are making huge profits from those mass-produced brands and are successful at convincing many Ontarians that it is worth paying big bucks for them.

Bocephus IPA by Mile 9 was quite possibly the most delicious IPA that I have ever consumed. From Saskatoon, Sk.

The first two to me are non-descript, heavily promoted euro swill and the latter two are equally bland but from a different location. Honestly blind taste testing all four you would be hard pressed to provide any real description of them other than they are cold and wet.

As a friend of mine says, Stella is the Labatt Blue of Belgium.

Belgium being Belgium, it is still way better than Blue.

There's a reason Stella is called "wife beater" in the UK.

As for the latter - they are both utter garbage. Stella may be slightly better, but not by much, at least the locally brewed stuff they sell here. I've heard it's slightly better over there, although the style has virtually nothing in common with Belgium's rich brewing history. If I had my choice I'd rather pay less for a Blue than the premium Stella somehow commands here.

On that note, I find it odd that people who wouldn't be caught dead with a case of Molson Canadian or Labatt Blue are willing to pay a premium for equivalent macrobrews from other countries... the Carlsbergs, Heinekens, Tsingtaos, Baltikas, Stella Artoises, etc.

The phenomenon isn't unique to Canada.

Even in St-Pierre et Miquelon, the Canadian/American brands are more expensive than Leffe, La Chouffe, etc.

Apparently when inBev made the decision to market Stella as a high end brand in North America, Labbatt Blue was actually one of the alternate choices...

What's wrong with Blue? It's better than Stella Artois.

I just can't do Blue. I am OK with Molson products though.
