What is this? (corridor)

this might be really obvious, but does anyone know what this corridor is for, and what kind of work is going on... it doesn't seem to be a separate parcel on E-maps on the city's website

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...cl=1&encType=1

they are digging a bunch near the future 7/hazeldean interchange and further north as well

It must be something to do with the widening of #7 and a future interchange. That rural estate subdivision to the north looks really isolated and wasteful in terms of location etc.

The imagery of Kanata is from July/August 2006 based on a property that I can see that is just starting construction. This is much clearer imagery than in the past...now we just need the 'birds eye' imagery which is even better.

It almost looks like they're laying a pipeline, especially if you look here.

I checked the zoning on e-maps and it was zoned "O1O SUBZONE- Trans Canada Pipeline Subzone", so I guess that's it... a google search shows that there was some Stittsville pipeline project in 2006 (thanks for the date on those images)

I agree about that subdivision. there's almost a ring of them around Kanata and Stittsville.

March Rd and 417 is seeing more exurban development. the expansion of the golf course on March Rd SW of the 417 is carving a big chunk out of those woods. There's the Carp Airport development, a recent estate lot subdivision (country meadow drive) and this proposed/concept golf course/hotel/waterpark,

I looked a bit further into it, and I'm quite sure that's part of the TransCanada Mainline System. Perhaps they're either expanding the line, or replacing the line through that section.

I went by yesterday and can confirm it is Trans Canada...it also goes south of Hwy 7.

BTW....Hwy 7 is one ugly road west of Stittsville where they have done construction. The new big box craptastics stuff in Carleton Place is pretty awful as well.

there is a huge section around the highway 15/7 intersection designation as "Highway Commercial".... more big box to come

you may be interested to see that Carleton Place is creating a Development Permit system (including discretionary uses) using their new Bill 51 powers...

It's also much more readable and understandable for the public than your average zoning bylaw

Thanks for the links. I attended an MMA seminar early in 2007 when they were promoting the Development Permit system. There seemed to be little take up in the Ottawa area of it, especially with senior City of Ottawa Staff who were quite negative about a lot of things being talked about at the seminar.

My recollections of Carleton Place are that the mayor and his CAO have a very tight rein on development and has been quite heavy handed on what gets built where, when and by whom.
