dlg569—thank you for posting these photos. Did you take these photos around 4 PM today? I saw someone taking photos in the neighborhood.

Not me. I was in Navy Yard on Friday afternoon to pick something up from Whole Foods. The photos were taken with my IPhone while in the car. Probably have a lot more because I'm furloughed.

"Howard To Convert Administrative Building On Georgia Ave. To Apartments"
Washington BizNow

Quote:
Howard University is continuing its strategy of redeveloping its properties with a new project on Georgia Avenue. The university announced Wednesday it is moving forward with the renovation of an administrative building at 2225 Georgia Ave. NW into 176 apartments. The nine-story building, called the Howard Center, currently consists of administrative offices and ground-floor retail, leased by a Barnes & Noble bookstore and a Starbucks. Those retailers will remain, but the university plans to transform the upper floors.

Besides being the old CIA headquarters, I think it belonged to the War Dept. I could be wrong though.

Former parking lot. MNCPPC is relocating from Silver Spring to Wheaton. It's easy metro access and the area has some great restaurants which will get a lunchtime boost.

EXCLUSIVE: DC United In Talks To Develop $200M Mixed-Use Project By Audi Field

January 17, 2019
By Jon Banister
BisNow

Audi Field has helped spark a wave of development on Southwest D.C.'s Buzzard Point since it opened in July, and now D.C. United is looking to get in on the action itself.

The soccer team is in advanced discussions with at least four top developers to build a mixed-use project on two parcels directly to the east of its new 20,000-seat stadium. The site could support about 600K SF of development. The 1.6-acre Parcel B sits along Half Street SW between R and S streets and is occupied by a parking lot and green space. Directly to the south, Parcel C has about 10K SF of land area. The property is part of the land D.C. United leased from the District to build the stadium, and the club is working with MAC Realty Advisors to find a development partner for the site..."

This is a win-win. We get rid of Fox and the Wisconsin Avenue corridor gets more housing.

Fox News: An Early Look at the 280-Unit Development Planned for Broadcast Company’s Headquarters

"Last May, UrbanTurf reported on potential plans to redevelop the site of the WTTG Fox 5 television headquarters on Wisconsin Avenue. Now, we have a better idea of how that development could look.

Donohoe Development presented conceptual renderings of the proposal for 5151 Wisconsin Avenue NW (map) at a December meeting of ANC 3E. After the broadcast company vacates the site in June 2021, the office building and radio tower would be razed and replaced with 280 apartments and 17,000 square feet of commercial space..."

Buzzard Point

I took a couple of photos of two developments south of the DC United stadium in Buzzard Point a few days ago. The first development is by Akridge (I think 100 V Street, SW). Apologies for the poor quality of the photos-- the light wasn't good.

Former U.S. Coast Guard headquarters (372 residential units are planned).

HPRB Approval Sought for 90-Unit Development at Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street

"Last June, the Zoning Commission voted for a one-year extension of approval for a development on the vacant lot at the corner of Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street NW (map). Now, as the clock begins winding down, the development team is moving forward with the approval process.

Designed by Bonstra | Haresign, the project will have 85-95 residential units above approximately 5,000 square feet of cellar-level retail. Owner Joe Mamo has submitted the plans for the mixed-use project to the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) for design concept approval. .."

Carnegie Library

I took a couple of photos a few weeks ago of the restoration of the Carnegie Library, located on 7th Street, across the street from the DC Convention Center. A flagship Apple store will go into the restored building, as well as the DC History Center.

Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard

I took a couple of photos of the residential development located next to Dock 79, the Maren. This is located right next to the Anacostia River and Nats Park.

Hotel Proposed In Place of 150 Apartments at Capitol Crossing

February 5, 2019
By Nena Perry-Brown
Urban Turf

"A year ago, rumblings first began that the residential component would be nixed at the two million square-foot Capitol Crossing development. Now, Property Group Partners (PGP) is following through on that plan.

Capitol Crossing has already begun delivering its 1.9 million square feet of office space and 62,687 square feet of commercial space above the Center Leg Freeway at the intersections of Massachusetts Avenue, 2nd Street and E Street NW (map). A 150-unit residential building approved as part of the planned-unit development (PUD) is the component that the developer is now applying to replace with a 180,384 square-foot hotel. The application cites changing market conditions since the original PUD was approved in 2011, including the increase in residential development in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood and the need for an element that would further activate the area..."
