Boston, Brookline & Harvard Square

I took most of these pictures in the last week or two. Many of the pics of downtown Boston are taken from points in East Boston. Many of the Charles River pics were taken from the Cambridge side of the river looking towards Boston. There are shots in Brookline, Brighton, Allston, and Harvard Square. Flickr decided the order of appearance for me.

We have been enjoying some nice weather and I really enjoyed taking these pictures:

Awesome! So happy to see my hometown Brookline represented. But I must point out that pics 18, 48-53 are all Allston-Brighton. Corey Rd is a pretty useful dividing line. The difference in density is also quite noticeable.

Blade Bltz - Thanks for the correction on the Brighton locations. I corrected the names. Brookline is one of my all-time favorite areas.

i like Brookline too Expat, Coolidge Corner area in particular and i agree with the poster above, this may be your best so far.............what about doing one of the campuses of our major universities? you have shown some of the magnificent Harvard campus but there are so many others with quite different types of campuses, BC BU , Northeastern, MIT, Bentley and so on..........

Ah great pics. I used to live right around the corner from the Brighton pic--19. In fact I took that exact same shot at some point. Its really a great corner. You also got my friends old building in picture 49. For all the time I spent living in that neighborhood I guess it really isn't much of a coincidence.

If you ever really cared, and not because I'm trying to be a stickler, but pic 19 is Brighton and pics 48-53 are Allston. I would say anything up the hill on Comm and west of the hospitals is Brighton and the dense area of apartments around Harvard and Comm that is full of students is Allston.

Brookline is lovely as always. One of my favorite places.

Again great photos.

A fantastic serial of pictures again! Cool how you capture the city. The ugly and the beauty, the skyline and the alleys.

Picture 4 is pretty funny. Love it!

Expat, not sure which picture i like best, #45 or #46..probably #46 but i love the emphasis on International Place in #45 with Harbor Towers of course which while not classic Boston are a nice addition to the waterfront. International Place was a very controversial development because of it's style but i think it's beautiful and fits in perfectly. I believe the tallest building in the background was sadly the last fairly tall building built downtown. I really want Menino's dream on a 1000ft tower at Post Office Sq to happen but it has gone nowhere. If he cant get a tall one built downtown no one can. I am a firm believer that even though i think we have a nice skyline, the downtown needs a focal point type tower because there is none and all the buildings are close to the same height creating a squat skyline. I never really realized it but we have 2 even 3 skylines with the downtown, back bay and you could consider Cambridge as a third, pretty cool, IMO

@Sabotai - Thanks for looking and your nice comment!

@Sterlippo - Regarding skylines, it is interesting that Boston has two completely different ways to view the city from the water. One from the harbor and the other from the Charles River. Other ways, too, if I think of it.

@Benonie - Glad you liked Pic 4. I wasn't sure if others would see it the way I did.

@Ohioguy - Boston is a short plane ride from DC with great deals. Or train ride.

@MBrown - Thanks! It is easy to make Boston look good. All I have to do is point & shoot. The city does all the work.

@Shadowmaster - You should visit Boston often. And I should visit NY often.

@Robert Walpole - When a man in powdered wig calls your photographs "Magnificent", I consider it the ultimate validation.

Great pictures! The view of Boston from across the Charles River is a nice one, which I found out in person last year.

The musical instrument that that woman is playing is the glass armonica, invented by Ben Franklin.

A number of my co-workers attended the American Planning Association conference there; I had to stay back. I've tried to make it to Boston when I lived in Halifax, but still haven't made it there. I will eventually, but great photos!

Wonderful blend of old and new with the towers and heritage buildings. Just wish people in Halifax could accept that!

Thanks Coldayman - it is a pleasure to inform you.

LeotheDog - I haven't been to Anna's yet, but everyone seems to like it.

Halifaxboyns - Too bad you didn't come to Boston when you were so close! I hope to visit Halifax while I am living here in New England. Can I take a ferry boat to Halifax? Or is that from Portland, ME? Either way, it would be fun. (or am I completely confused?)

Sterlippo - Oddly enough, I don't know International Place, Harbor Towers, etc. I need to learn more about the city.
