Toronto teen turns cereal boxes into intricate model of downtown core

Toronto teen turns cereal boxes into intricate model of downtown core

Stephanie Law
Staff Reporter

All it took was some cereal boxes, some glue, and a razor blade for a 14-year-old to build the entire downtown Toronto from scratch.

When Stephen Velasco started building his six-feet-by-two-feet model of the city, he’d spend up to two hours at his desk, a few days a week, gluing together cardboard pieces in the shapes of hundreds of downtown buildings. It’s something he began spontaneously three years ago.

That is awesome! He should post photos in the Skyscraper Art section so the whole forum can see his work.

That reminds me of something I did when I was about 10. With help from my parents I took milk cartons and put them together to make little skyscrapers which of course pales to the amount of work Steve has done but we both did a skyscraper-related project as kids, although mine was for school as I recall. So who makes the little skyscrapers for architects? It looks like his career path may already be made....

I don't want to necropost, but it really does look great. It reminds me of the times when my godfather gave me some paper model sheets for historic buildings. I also liked to make plastic models of planes and ships. I think I still have somewhere few unpacked models. I was thinking about returning to it for quite some time.
