Did someone throw a rock? I don't think it would be cheap to replace it.

More like a birth defect, in that the person who grew up would vandalize a new piece of glass installed. There is a point of impact.

If the break originates out from a little figure 8 / butterfly shape at the centre, it's likely a spontaneous failure due to a nickel sulfide inclusion in the glass, not a thrown object. These failures are expected to occur in 1% of tempered glass sheets over the first 10 years, so on a station renovation with lots of glass a breakage like this is almost guaranteed. There is no immediate urgency in replacing a sheet of shattered tempered laminated glass like this, as it's engineered to work with just fine with only one side of the glass present.

Shattering tempered glass by throwing something at it actually is very difficult. I doubt anyone would go to that much effort, but you never know!

So I see utility relocation is underway at Joyce but what in the living hell are those two giant cement lumps they have cast on the road that's also closed the road one way? Please christ don't tell me it's for traffic calming in front of a goddamn skytrain station.

Joyce-Collingwood Station Upgrades Progress Report
Quote:
Traffic changes

Later this summer, Vanness Avenue between the west stationhouse bus loop and McGeer Street will permanently become one-way traffic (westbound only), to improve road safety and ensure safe bus operations.
This has been planned for a few years.

How the hell do these people pass drug tests when s*** like this gets submitted, approved and rubberstamped? That is crack-smoking retarded AND in front of a damn station.
This has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard planned.

There is construction frenzy happening outside the Joyce station west station house. A section of Vanness Avenue west of Joyce street is totally closed today.
Crew are digging up the pavement outside the station at the northwest, southeast and southwest corners. What are they doing?

Bit of a smaller project, the loop at Nanaimo Station is expected to undergo a renovation. Proposals can be found in the below Development Application:

I really hope they will allow some development around this station somebody. It's criminal how it's pretty much just single-family housing without any retail as well.

The existing City Council won't contest the NIMBYs. Development would require voting in a Council that will.

Anyone know what's going on at Stadium Station? There's support structure being built over the station on the corner of beatty and dunsmuir

That was my thought too. I couldn't find any info on translink's site. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Fingers crossed they do.
Someone mentioned before they were covered due to maintenance issues and it made the station act like a greenhouse but that was before the area built up. The concourse is the dimmest and most miserable place in the entire system.

Well Stadium-Chinatown was having design work on the station upgrades but I doubt they would start without posting information like with their other projects.

Looks like it won't open until summer 2019 at the earliest.
