NICE pics Joe! But that goiter on top of the arch is NASSSSSSSTY... Oh man. Like something you'd see in Epcot. What a disappointment.

They aren't moving quick, you're just getting old.

I guess it's a good thing that 99% of us will never see that view of the arch...most people will see it from street level, and it actually looks pretty good.

Great views of Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead!

^ Yeah, what's on top of the arch will hopefully be about as noticeable as A/C units on all the other buildings.

These pictures should be used to flaunt in the faces of those who claim that Atlanta is not a 'real city'. Only a handful of cities in this country could even claim similar/higher development. Yes, it would be lovely to have an unbroken skyline from the GA Dome to Perimeter Centre, however I, for one, enjoy the lovely canopy views throughout the entire city which almost instantly brings a with it a sense of calmness.

And this is coming from someone who was raised in NYC. Those who love that place can KEEP it!

I don't think anyone questions the impressiveness of the Atlanta skyline.

It's not the building height that northeasterners and Europeans lament in Atlanta. It's the street activity, street buzz, and street-level facades, that are lacking.

Except for New York, there isn't a single northeastern or European city that has as tall or dense a skyline as Atlanta. But many of them, nonetheless, have better "senses of place".

Joey, more astute observers of the intricacies of city planning and civic development would agree with you (I do myself). I should probably, then, specify that my comment was directed to the many off-the-cuff remarks made about Atlanta, i.e. 'It's not a real city because there is no skyline continuity', or, 'The city of Atlanta epitomises urban sprawl', among a host of other baseless comments. I refuse to entertain comparisons with this city to northeastern and, primarily, European city centres due to the sheer disparity in ages. It is just not right to compare a city that is barely 180 years of age to those cities which have been around in some form for hundreds and (in a few select cases) a millenium.

I am optimistic in the sense that we are witness to the effect of a 'If you build it, they will come' mentality here in Atlanta.

As a finance person, I am quite impress with investor optimism, but I am afraid the market is due for a large correction.

However, I am very happy with the way the US have skim right over the credit crunch and the housing slump, but the gas price is going to hinder this recovery.

Incredible photos as always...thanks Joe!

Its amazing to look at these pictures and think what has been built in the last 20 years...not a long time in the life of a city.

As for density, I do think Pittsburgh is hard to beat (obviously it's no way near as tall or extensive as many other cities, but I do find it more impressive). http://pittsburghskyline.com/ But you're right, I don't think lack of tall buildings are what people are talking about when they say that Atlanta doesn't seem like a "real" city.

So...what are they talking about then?
