I believe that would be "Toys B We".

Wow. Should be fun accessing that Lowe's at pretty much any time in the morning/afternoon. Gotta be one of the worst locations to get to from anywhere in the city, despite being centrally located. i used to work in the Auriga/Antares area and the traffic backed up from the Hunt Club bridge is awful - and for a lot longer than most roads/intersections in Ottawa.

Indeed, traffic is a huge issue in that area. Some recommendations:

* The western and eastern entrances should be removed. From Hunt Club, all access would be at the central entrance - which would be right-in, right-out.

* Bentley should be extended under Hunt Club (sharing the underpass with the VIA tracks) and connected to the Audi dealership via the local access road.

* If a transit route is added along Hunt Club, then a pedestrian overpass would be necessary to change sides since there would be no traffic signals.

Can that area support 100,000 square feet of retail?

definitely. it's sorely needed for the Greely area. go to Greely Foodland, which is basically a big shed...totally inadequate, and it has a postage stamp sized LCBO inside which is always jammed.

The Greely Foodland was just rebuilt a couple of years ago. It's small but it is a decent store.

I question whether this amount of retail is viable in Greely as well... just in the past year the new plaza has opened up the road at Bank & Findlay Creek which has an LCBO, Shoppers, grocery store, Tim Horton's, Canadian Tire, etc.

the Findlay Creek mall is exactly 7 km from this one...that's quite significant when someone in Greely wants to run out for a case of beer or something at Shopper's. This will serve quite a large catchment area, an area that is still growing.

I remember when that site was just a giant hole in the ground... a quarry I think. Aaah, the good old days ;-)

I agree with you that the location sucks, but the award for suckiest location of a project like this has to go to the Laurentian High School re-development. That intersection (Baseline-Merivale-Clyde) was a gong show before this mall was in existance and now it is a disaster!

I drove by a few weeks ago. It feels very weird. I would hate to be the person living in the house accross the street who how have traffic lights infront of their lawn and a massive Walmart as a neighbor. It literally is in the middle of nowhere.

There is no all-day transit service there, and not likely to be any in the near future due to its isolation and the difficulty in serving until significant development elsewhere...

I believe that the person across the road and slightly to the SW was one of the original owners of the lands, so they may not be too broken up about it all.

Yikes...I would have thought that would pull the price down. I've seen ads for houses in Westboro as being 'steps to Starbucks'. Maybe the kijiji link is targetting the type who would enjoyed the ambience of a Wal Mart parking lot so much in their RV that they would consider putting down permanent roots on the edge of the asphalt World Heritage Site
