Is anyone else disappointed with the base as shown in the first picture? Seems bland and disproportionate compared to the tower itself.

I've metnioned the base a few times, even if the tower was moved all the way to the corner it would still need some work. But otherwise, I'm sold that this one is 10/10 now! Thanks for the find spyguy.

What else is going to be on the base? The building's footprint is not so large in comparison to the entire lot. The renderings show a bit of a green area, but I think that is a bit redundant since it will sit adjacent to Harbor Park.

Anyone have any idea?

well, you could still steal the story by obtaining a large, high-res rendering of this thing

as for the new images spyguy posted, i just keep getting more and more excited for this thing. with the new FS and aqua images coming out this week, i'm downright giddy.

Yeah...it'll come down to the details and finish quality, but this could be a very significant landmark. The only question mark for me is how the concrete balconies will end up looking and aging.

its great how an 800 footer can get completely lost in the Chicago skyline, whereas in most other cities in the country, it would be the skyline's trophy tower.

Sorry all. My first opinion goes against it. Someone said "Did someone leave it in the oven too long" To me it looks damaged. I like chaos, but structured chaos. Wonder what Louis H. Sullivan would think of it? Then again, it might be ahead of its time and I'm not ready for it yet.

That was removed a while ago. The tower continues all the way into to the ground now

You're right 773, it's been a long day and when he said pedestal it reminded me of the FS. So ya, nice catch.

The reason there has to be a pedestal base is that the tower faces a three-level street to the West, but faces the ground level to the east, and the lot is huge.

New Eastside

I live in New Eastside and my view is over the new park, so I would be looking directly at the new building (assuming we stay here that long).

I think essentially it would block my view of the Park Millenium and/or the Fairmont hotel. I hope they see fit to link it up with the pedway under either or both of those buildings.

Also, I with they could give some consideration to our neighborhood's great little Lake Shore Grill, this is a terrifically managed restaurant with great food and great prices. Since the building will be one the site of their building, it would be nice if they could stay somehow, even if not right on the first floor. Good as it is, we certainly don't need another "Aria" type restaurant.

Eric
