Still not a fan of Thorne. I think he is behind the height limit.

I bought my 99 Accord there, worked across the street for 6 years. And that opp corner was a gas station/ variety store, is that still vacant?

It is still vacant , but there is a public notice sign on the site and there is also a sign saying it will be the new offices of a real estate firm. Can't remember which firm off hand.

Royal LePage State Realty.

The sign has been up for at least a year or 2 now.

My bet is it remains empty and is ultimately combined with the former popeye's lot & maybe a few houses and is pitched as a mid rise.

Last week yellow fence was installed around the former popeye's building. Maybe they'll demo it and sell both land as one piece.

I don't feel as strongly as realcity, but I am also not a fan of Thorne.

That entire block is being expropriated for LRT - which is why nothing has happened (and nothing will happen)...apparently the empty Popeye's was going to be a design centre/office for a major home developer and then they received notice from MetroLinx about the expropriation...same for the State Realty lot on the corner...the house/offices on the corner of Bold/Main are also being expropriated and will be out on April 1.

For an LRT that won't happen if Doug Ford wins. Hasn;t Hamilton been talking and 'planning' for about ten years already.?

this item is on the agenda for Tuesday's planning meeting and staff are recommending approval for 2 buildings - 18 stories and 15 stories. Looks like a re-design has taken place too.

Yes, you're reading all of these last few updates correctly - staff are approving 4 'tall' buildings in the same meeting. Maybe finally a shift towards becoming open for business after 45 years of decline? Great news for 1 meeting at least!

ground floor retail along Main here...narrower towers than originally proposed which is why 1 of them is 18 floors.
Total height of the tall building is actually 68 metres which is 220 feet. A great scale and presence on the west end skyline here adjacent to the 403.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamil...ence-1.4809498

925 Main W./150 Longwood Rd. S.

This proposal is for two towers — one 16 storeys, one 18 — with a four-storey podium connecting them. It includes 1,420 square metres of commercial space, an underground parking garage, four recreational sports fields and 512 residential units (1,024 beds) for Columbia international College students. The owner is Plaza Imports Ltd., and the applicant is Columbia International College.

The planning committee voted 7-3 to allow the zoning change. City council has to ratify that on Sept. 12.

There is opposition though. Environment Hamilton warns that artificially building out a slope by about 14 metres risks the building tipping or splitting from erosion. Hamilton Conservation Authority staff had reservations too, although the board ultimately approved the project.

Sergio Manchia of UrbanSolutions told councillors there will be studies ensuring slope stability.

"We do not build buildings to fall over."

I hope this gets built. We have such a large population of students in Downtown Hamilton. It's good to see some progress being made here. William Thomas was a huge step in the right direction. We need more students living together in Student Residences as opposed to living in the Crown Plaza....

It's been a long time since we've heard any updates on this. Is there perhaps work being done on the slope before anything happens here? The building hasn't even been demolished yet.
