There really has been quite a bit of positive development news coming from that area. Let's hope that the trend continues and that the city will have a new tallest.

Events Center, Legacy interchange could co-exist

http://www.davisclipper.com/default....rtoday&he=.com

“It’s a really nice building and it serves the community well,” said Forkner. The elevated interchange will also lessen the noise impact the road will have on the arena and entire event center. “It would be a high cost to replace.”

Light rail preferred option in S. Davis

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...255843,00.html

East-west access gets focus in Davis, Weber

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...255819,00.html

UDOT study comes up with 4 options

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1...255821,00.html

Here are highlights of the four plans presented by the Utah Department of Transportation in its Davis Weber east-west transportation study. UDOT will likely adopt a combination of the four:
• Blue package: Legacy Highway is a six-lane expressway north to 12th Street, then a two-lane road to Box Elder County. 12th Street is a four-lane expressway. Ogden has bus rapid transit only, not light rail.

• Yellow package: Legacy is a six-lane freeway all the way to Box Elder County.

• Red package: Highway 193 is a four-lane expressway on the south side of Hill Air Force Base. South Weber Drive connects directly to Roy. Light rail in Ogden only goes to Weber State University. Legacy Highway is a four-lane road.

• Orange package: Ogden has light rail from Pleasant View to 40th Street on Washington Boulevard, with a spur line up 24th Street and then along Harrison to WSU. The Legacy Highway is seven lanes to 12th Street.

I know it would cost quite a bit of funds, but I think they should just have light rail from Salt Lake to Ogden. They keep talking about putting it to Farmington/ Lagoon, and even within Ogden. So why not just connect the whole system? They are possibly putting it to Provo, so why not Ogden. It just seems like it would be a good idea to me. And it would create one long light rail system and really connect the metro.

Some kind of street car sounds great aswell, but I would go for light rail in Davis County.

Light rail doesnt make sense for lower density areas. Its most efficient in highly urbanized areas with short routes/multiple stops.

Light rail isnt planned for anytime in the near future here in Provo. They are, however, talking about Bus Rapid Transit, but its not dense enough yet for light rail to make financial sense in Utah County.

As we on the board all know, commuter rail is upon us and that works best for a SLC to Ogden or SLC to Provo scenario with longer distances between stops and a higher speed of the trains.

I'd like to see street cars (trolleys) that share a lane with automobiles implemented somewhere along the Wasatch Front. I still think light rail is a little too intrusive to a pedestrian environment and should be used for purposes such as connecting more extensive modes of transportation, e.g. a park and ride to a trolley system. I feel the scale of street cars are more appropriate in a pedestrian environment, traveling at slower speeds, and making frequent stops. I would actually prefer, after the circulator is completed in Downtown, that TRAX stop running up and down Main Street, and street cars take over that track. The street cars would serve as the circulator, since they'll be able to run on light-rail tracks as well. Then I would like to see the Trolley system expanded with lines running down almost every street as they once did.

Urbanboy, I agree with you about restoring the Trolley system in Salt Lake and surrounding Metro. I understand that they are very serious about the trolley line along the 21st south area, from the new Market Station to downtown Sugarhouse. It would be to the city's advantage to make the trolley car itself, iconic in it's design. Also, I would like to see the trolley run on some sort of new generation battery system, or CNG fuel, instead of stringing up the power grid through the neighborhoods. They are making great strides with rechargable batteries and are improving the technology dramatically as we speak.

However, I do also wonder if perhaps it would'nt make more sense to invest in clean technology buses, and really flush out the availability of a convenient system that is close to customers, and is equipped with the ability to control stop lights at the intersections. In L.A., this is proving to be very successful.

I'm glad to see that Ogdan is getting all these new mid-high rise projects. For years Ogdan has been kind of a rundown scary place. But now with the Junction development downtown Ogdan is getting a new look. I really like the Ashton Square project as well as the plan 14-story Midtown Hotel. These projects will make Ogdan look alot more dense in it's skyline. And I hope these projects will bring families and single people back into the downtown area.

I was up in Ogden yesterday afternoon and evening. On my way up, I passed a large billboard on Harrison Blvd. It was the announcement of a big 14 story luxury hotel downtown called, "The Ashton Place Hotel." From the rendering on the billboard it looked pretty impressive. I'm wondering if anyone else knows some more about this.

Is the "The Ashton Place Hotel" the same as "The Midtown Village Hotel"?

Midtown Village Hotel.

Is Ogdan getting two 14-story hotels?

Because Clearfield, like Orem is looking to break away from the 'bedroom only' perception, and start the process of building a mixed-use downtown style core.
