The scale is a bit off in that cross section. Either the trains are too big or the people are all 4 feet tall.

Agreed. Hmmm, perplexed I am. So, can they really fit as many tracks in that box as they depict? I would still guess yes based on whatever engineering drawings they have, but one now wonders.

And still not any plan to bring Caltrain into the station making this the world's most expensive bus station ever built (at least until the new PABT).

You can say this all you want but it is simply not true. This is also a park and a train station. Even if the train station takes a decade or more to become operational, the cost of the terminal is including the cost of a train station.

Current projections are a minimum of 15 years and no, the cost of the terminal isn't including the station. They have a box underground where they could build a station in the future, but that would cost ANOTHER 2.5 Billion to build the tunnels and station.

The 15 years you mention is for high speed rail, but Caltrain could conceivably be ready in 10 years and with federal backing as little as 5-6 years.

http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-...e61243037.html

CAHSR has taken a pivot from connecting down to Los Angeles first to actually going North from the Central Valley and connecting to Silicon Valley. That mean s high speed rail cars will be in San Jose by 2025, just 9 years. It would seem possible to have those same cars connecting to the Transbay Terminal by 2025 or soon after. Much of this timeline will be decided by who wins the Presidential & Congressional elections this year, with republicans leaving the costs to the states, forcing California to stretch into the late 2020s. This is in a comment and review stage, but will probably pass the board and be sent to CA legislature in around May 1.

Caltrain doesn't have the money to operate a station of that size. The city doesn't even have the money to operate the bus station part. Only with HSR will there be close enough revenue to operate this behemoth.

There is a ballot measure proposed by the republicans to defund HSR. Last I read they are collecting signatures to get it on either this year's ballot or 2018.

Does anyone know if the panels are aluminum or coated in ceramic? I would think they'd be much easier to keep looking bright and clean if they were.

Not a big fan of the panel design, original design would've looked much better.
