It sort of looks like a mash up of The Regatta and The Chandler.

What an absolute monstrosity, the rendering on the left, is.

It's a chimera, some ocean beast Oedipus would have encountered on the Aegean..

I think you meant Odysseus ... Oedipus is the one the Oedipus complex is named after (are you trying to tell us something? ).

This design is like Jason crawling out of a rural lake after drowning there in the pomo 1980s. But it does do one thing the final design does not - it has a taller feel. I think this is mainly from the partitioning of the massing where balconies begin a third of the way up, and then also where the topmost couple balconies emphasize the penthouses perched at the very top of the tower. So it might've been nice if the final design had taken a general cue of this sort from, say, 340 OTP, but more minimalist.

I like how in the first one, they apparently wanted to paint the neighboring building behind it pink, too.

I agree I don't really mind it either, but obviously the current one is way way better.

I like both designs. I think the one on the left would come out better in real life than it does in the rendering.

I agree it would come out better in real life, but the current design fits the area a lot better IMO. If you put the old design near One Museum Park, it wouldn't be as much out of place.
