To each his own.

I think we averted disaster. In fact I wonder if someone with the current design team leaked this in order so that we could all appreciate what we don't end up with in order to drive up the stock of the current design.

This building would be quasi-tolerable if it was in River North, Streeterville, or even LSE. However fronting the main branch of the Chicago River is no place to further allow such schlock along that stretch.

I really like the new design - residential but fits in well with its office neighbors the Leo Burnett & R.R. Donnelley Buildings. It creates a reall canyon street wall for the north edge of the Loop on the River. If the glass is nice the reflection will be great too.

I was never a fan of the Waterview Tower design although the height was nice. It just looked too much like a condominium tower for that location. This 'dead' rendering is that but 100 times worse - dodged a bullet for sure!

Great shots. Glad they're past the transfer floor. It looks like they're around half way done with the overall height?

I wonder what kind of glass they went with. Does anyone know when that'll start going up?

This is so bad I have to wonder if it was real (as in an actual proposed design by an employed professional architect hoping to land the commission, and not a first year architecture student who's about to switch majors to accounting)? If so, architect and firm need to be publicly exposed as there's no excuse - that's just heinous.....

It would have been a better choice. I can't understand how anyone wouldn't choose this over what they are building now!

^^All three of these are great until they get to the bottom. However, that nasty, SCB meet Amli piece of crap is disgusting.

Also, I like that last one the best. The bottom is too dark and hidden but overall, tower is great and very futuristic looking.

Ugh, I wish I didn't see those last three. Now I know it could have been cooler than what we are getting, although, what we are getting isn't that bad.

Those renderings are for buildings that don't belong in Chicago. . . send 'em up to Canada. . . blech!

The second one looks reminiscent of "The Chicago" proposal for the south end of the park that floated through not too long ago. I like it.

@takascar ...seriously.

The top one looks like some of the high rises I saw in Kuala Lumpur last month. The second one looks like "The Chicago" and the third doesn't fit, but I still think it's cool albeit the weakest of the three. Second is my favorite.

It's a mess with no design coordination or unity of form.
