I like the feeling of excitment, even if for some reason they announce their postponing it until next year.

When you see D'angelo brothers equipment on site you will know work is really beginning.

^ Yep, I also noticed the D'Angelo Bros. truck in Lincolndrive's photos. And perhaps even more significantly, the backhoe and the excavator. Obviously, more digging equipment to follow.

Based on the size of the digging equipment and the buckets, and the neat rectangular saw cut in the concrete and asphalt, this looks like a very targeted dig at this point, and not the "big dig" for which we're all waiting. Not that we won't be seeing that soon. But one of you intrepid forum photographers ought to ask one of those D'Angelo guys what they're doing the next time you're over there taking photos (especially since they're working right by the sidewalk). I suspect that, as Lincolndrive indicated yesterday, this may be some preliminary site work before the formal groundbreaking and digging in earnest get underway in July.

But hey, we'll take it!

Talking

Just walked by... the sidewalk on Arch St. between 18th/19th now has concrete barriers lining the street--blocking off pedestrian access. Also, 2 more targeted holes on the 18th Street side of the lot about 5-6 ft deep -- like the pics posted above.

And I noticed across the street the shaded, tree lined walkway with benches to the Comcast Center from 18th Street (on the side of the building) has a fence blocking access, and a security guard standing out front the fence. Not sure if that's related to CITC happenings or not.

Pretty cool though - it has begun.

at 2pm I drove by and stopped and asked the hardhats if the concrete barriers that reach out and enclose the left most lane of traffic into the construction site is for CITC and they very much said yes.

The preliminary digging is most likely for where the existing utilities cross through the parking lot. So they need to be cut and capped in order for deep excavation to continue.

Very exciting! Can't believe we're getting a 1000 footer and 700 footer rising at the same time!

Now I read in an article it will take a year before steel rises above ground level so it will be a long year!
