Cypress Mountain - Vancouver's Premier Ski Resort

To the west of Grouse Mountain is Cypress Mountain:

CYPRESS MOUNTAIN, WEST VANCOUVER

Cypress Mountain is a ski area in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, located in the southern section of Cypress Provincial Park.

The ski resort is just a short 20 minutes drive north of Vancouver, and has 38 named alpine ski runs (many accessible for night skiing) and 19 km cross country tracks. Snowshoeing tours are also popular. Ski schools and rentals, cafeteria and lounge and a retail shop are also located on the premises. In summer the ski area is shut down, but there are many hiking trails in the park. However construction of the 2010 Venues will continue at a rapid pace in the next few years.

The ski area's downhill runs are built on two mountains (Mt. Strachan - 1432m and Black Mountain-1193 m), on a vertical rise of 522m.

During the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Cypress will host all of the freestyle skiing and snowboarding competitions (Moguls, Aerials, Half-pipe, Snowboard Cross and Parallel Giant Slalom).

Vertical: 522 m
Top elevation: 1,432 m
Base elevation: 910 m
Runs: 38
Longest run: 4.1 km (combination)
Lift system: 5 chairlifts, 1 magic carpet
Snowfall: 622 cm/year

Great Post and photos, thanks

Aparently, there are many new improvements on the mountain this year. They also have an extremely informative website, the what's new page found here;
http://www.cypressmountain.com/new.html

Cypress Season Passholders receive 10% off at the Boardroom! All you have to do is show your pass.

This season there are huge changes on the mountain. Opening this winter are 9 NEW RUNS located on Black Mountain for HIGH LEVEL INTERMEDIATE and EXPERT Skiers and Riders which will be accessed by a newly located “RAVEN RIDGE” QUAD CHAIR. This will be the first major expansion of terrain on the North Shore since Sky Chair was opened in 1987!

Sunrise Quad Chair will be replaced with the NEW high speed detachable “THE LIONS EXPRESS” QUAD CHAIR that will wisk our skiers and riders to the top in about 4 minutes!

Another project already under construction is the NEW DAY LODGE, scheduled to open in 2008 and will be located between the 2 main chairlifts (The Eagle Express and The New Lions Express Quad Chairs).

This fall will also see the completion of the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Venues for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, including a NEW STATE OF THE ART SNOWMAKING SYSTEM and IN-GROUND SUPER PIPE.

This winter you will see the start of the excitement as Cypress Mountain will host the Freestyle Skiing FIS World Cup and a Canadian Nationals Snowboarding Event! We hope that all of our guests will be able to come and enjoy these events at Cypress Mountain and cheer on our Canadian Athletes competing on their home turf at Cypress Mountain and setting their sights on 2010!

Cypress Mountain ~ More Lifts, More Terrain, More Vertical, More Excitement
