Hey, I thought you guys might know, but I was just in Mobile and it looks like this building was renovated since the last time I was down there and they added this Moon Pie sign. What's up with this new stuff up top?

Haha, that building has been HEAVILY renovated by RSA. The Moon Pie is for New Years, each year they do the Moon Pie Drop.

I'm some other Mobilians can expand on my info.

Yes, RSA has invested tens of millions to renovate the building. It is now the RSA Trustmark Tower. Inside, two restaurants (one Cuban, one "local"), a bar, a pharmacy, and a Chick-Fil-A have been added or will be added to the first floor and the top floor.

The Moon Pie is used for the Moon Pie Drop for New Years as stated. A City Councilman is credited to getting the ball rolling on that.

Interesting that Mobile grabbed the Moon Pie since it's a Chattanooga born and made delite.
Seems these are thrown during Mardi Gras.

That is true but Moon pies are more known for mardi gras than being born in Chattanooga

Chick-Fil-A has been on then first floor of that building for almost a year now. Baumhower is opening 2 restaurants , the upscale restaurant will be on th 34th floor the name of it will be "Dauphine's" and it will reflect the French heritage of the region with a Creole/soul cousine.Man you can't get any better than a Creole / soul fusion !

The other restaurant will be called " Floridita's " , which will be a Cuban piano bar. The piano bar will be in the old basement vault and it will have an upscale speakeasy fill to it.

I' m a foodie so i'm excited about two new eateries downtown and in that building i'm sure the views are going to be crazy. It's nice that he has incorporated the history and culture of the region into both eateries.

They're starting the hiring process soon, as in they're posting the hiring sign on the front of it sometime this week. They told me late August/early September a few weeks ago but I get the feeling it'll be a little later than that, which is expected. Never seen a restaurant or bar actually open on a target date. I'll try to find out in the next couple days. I know they've been renovating for awhile so it shouldn't be too much longer.

Wow Washington County has a higher commuting percentage than Baldwin ?! I assume that majority of those who live in the Spanishfort -Fairhope area make majority of the commute. That area makes up about 26% of Baldwin's population I believe. Based on the numbers Clarke County would be in the CSA right ?

Washington has a lower population and not much in the way of jobs. Many people commute to Mobile Co. for jobs. In Baldwin, you're getting stretched every which way with the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area not typically commuting in the city and with central Baldwin being farmland.

As for Clarke, I believe there needs to be a 5 year rolling average of 15% into Mobile county to be included in the CSA. Right now, the rolling average has increased to around 11 to 12%, but it is still below 15%.

Hey SouthSky, I've always had trouble finding the Census page that allows you to research the commuting patterns, is there any way you could provide a link to the page?

Also, consider that metros aren't based just on commuting patterns to the core county, but to the entire metro. So, once one county is added to metro the percent commuting to it also figures into the equations. That's the reason why Atlanta's metro is so effing huge.
