The Nuggets are amazing this year....

As far as the Broncos, it is encouraging they have addressed their secondary...especially the safety position where we sucked last year. I'd feel better if we had gotten some help on the D-line...say a second and a third rounder. I know you cant force choices. It was time to see Shany move on...but I know there were better choices for head coach out there. Time will tell.

The Lakers are going to have their hands full if they play Houston next. Houston basically has two versions of Denver's Dante Jones. Houston has Yao Ming who can hold his own against Bynum, Oden and Gasol all at the same time! And Tracy McGrady can score head-to-head with Kobe Bryant, do not forget that. Sure, perhaps Bryant is better, but he will also have two defensively specialists in his face and Yao Ming dominating the paint.

I honestly think Houston wins this match up and could take it to a game 7 and pull off an upset. I woudl still give the Lakers a 60% chance to win the series. But I think Houston has a 40% chance to win it in a game 7.

I'm not sure whom Denver would match up better against, LA or Houston. it's close, so I don't think it really matters. Denver will have to play intense and hard either way, to have a chance to win the West. That includes against Dallas.

Tracy McGrady?

What about Dallas? The Mavs do not look like the same team the Nugs swept this season. They've been hot. But I think Denver defenders can stop Dallas.

As I type this New Orleans just took another lead against Denver. Forget LA. Forget Dallas. Let's get past New Orleans.

I can't believe this.

First of all:

F*ck the idiots on the NBA show on TNT. Making fun of Denver for being excited about winning a series... it's been 15 fricking years.

Second of all: The Nuggets will handle Dallas, the match up EXTREMELY (particularly on defense) well with them. The Mavs are a more talented version of New Orleans. They are really strong at point guard (Dante Jones is going to be important on the defensive side of the ball). Howard is an athelete, but he's the type of guy Kenyon Martin handles very well. Nowitzki is an electric scorer, but doesn't play any defense.

They're not a big team, and Nene will give them real trouble. They have no answer for Carmelo. If the Nuggets play defense the way they did this series, it should be a fairly short series with Dallas.

I expect the Nuggets to win this one.

Meh. Barkley will be Barkley. I don't care...he busts everyone's chops, as does everyone else. It's part of the show. 3/4 chose Denver to win it anyway.

Great way to finish the series! J.R. has been smoking 3's from 25+ feet! Melo found his inside lanes again tonight. I am lovin' the D...

Speaking of D, Dallas is up this Sunday, Game 1 in Denver. I've got my tix, do you?

I was flipping so I didn't catch all the post-game chatter on TNT, but I did notice the mocking tone toward the Nuggets and I noticed that Charles Barkley was the most sympathetic commentator on the Nuggets. Go figure.

Still, I'll take TNT coverage over the local coverage. Kroenke's Altitude wouldn't be such a chore to watch were it not so amateur and if advertising didn't intrude so much on the coverage. Does every awesome drive to the lane mean we have to hear about Lexus automobiles? Does every blocked shot warrant a mention of Mattress King?

Off topic: Has anyone read Naomi Klein's No Logo?

Hi-fives all around for getting out of the first round. But as I said earlier, anything less than the conference finals will be a let down for the Nuggets this year. Let's take care of business against Dallas.

But lets face it being 24th in ball control speaks volumes about the "quality" of the offense we ran last year. The cutler-Shanahan offensive scheme was 8-8 and 7-9.

BTW, Mcdaniels is the guy who was behind the dominent New england offense of its recent succsuful era. I cant see how you think he is a retard.
even the past few years, the DENVER BRONCOS have either won or lost depending on how the offense performed. the PAST FEW YEARS they were still an offensive oriented team. How do you "return" to being what you already were?? Or is that part of the logic what you're currently unable to understand? Wow.

mcdaniels (doesn't deserve to be capitalized) is an idiot for thinking too one dimensionally, thinking that he ALONE has all the right answers and as a result is really, really screwing things up. what he doesn't understand is that Denver isn't an organization that just starts from scratch, waits a few years and everything can pan out in that time. He doesn't have a few years. He's got 2 at most to deliver else his ass is out the door and we're in a transitional phase for yet another couple of years.

The Broncos are a franchise that DEMANDS winning and success year in and out. This is the winningest franchise in the NFL the past 23 years, ffs. We don't understand the term "rebuilding season". Combine that with he came in with an amazing cast of young, talented players that just needed an adequate defense to actually go and win games in the playoffs and you're seriously hard pressed to see how he's not screwing things up. Now you have a mediocre QB that's going to have to learn a completely new system that might be potentially too complex for him, drafting RB's after signing 3 free agents in the offseason and actually having some decent ones on the roster (if they stay healthy). Dawkins was a good sign...but other than that, he's completely neglected the defense, is mulling trading a great TE in scheffler for some unprovens and figures he's going to win games by scoring 45 points while the other team only scores 35. Seriously? This is going to be a painful season to watch from the stands...but I'll be there just as I have the past 15 years...probably calling for mcdaniels' head with 76,124 others when they start sucking (which is highly probable).

Like I said earlier I was referring to the broncos returning to the era of a high impact offense like with TD and such - where there was ball control. I find it hard to believe you think that the last couple of years the broncos even came close to the former.

You keep referring to Denver's total yards and such which is quantitative but ignore the qualitative aspect of last year(s) offense i.e. poor ball control and red zone scoring percentage.

I can see if you're skeptical about McDaniel's new scheme but you seem convinced that its faulty. How can this be when we don't even have a game under his belt? Or the fact that MCD is credited with the success of the New England patriots? You're really being pessimistic here and I cant seem to understand why. I do expect a lot from the broncos but I don't see any reason to be pestimistic after getting three first round picks and some nice moves in the FA. Moreno will be a star player and our D will certainly hold their own. yes, its a different broncos but their going to be better via a well rounded offense. Not one that can just put up a bunch of yards but can also score in the red with a versatile attack. I'll buy ya a beer for the first game. Top of the park too!

I have no idea whose 'take' on the Broncos is correct. Ball control football may be what you like or prefer, but for some of us the gunslinging attack of previous Bronco teams is something a number of us have liked for some time. BroncoCSU5, Gabe, makes some very valid points in that it will take years to establish what McDaniels wants to bring....and I agree, the new coach will only get two years if he only gets sub 8 and 8 seasons.

If you stop the name calling, I'll drop the spelling remarks. Watching little out passes up the field isn't exiting football.... meh.

your reading comprehension leaves that to be desired. where have i ever referred to quantitative yards? that's TOP. i keep referring to the fact that while denver's offense hasn't fired on all cylinders for a while now, it's certainly the offense that's always been the center of focus for this team...even given the offense's recent shortcomings, the offense was ALWAYS still bounds and leaps ahead of the defense. not to mention there have been plenty of teams who have turned the ball over more and done far better because, oh yeah, they had a smidgen of defense.

denver would have been far better do hire someone that wasn't such an offensive jackass. mcdaniels wasn't given nearly the credit for new england's success as belicheat is (and for good reason...hell, i've coached as many games as mcdaniels has). see, the thing is that we easily had a .500 team going on here. we've been .500 for how long now? that seemed to be shanahan's for-tay...be all-september with wins then suck down the road to where you finish around mediocre and exit first round of the playoffs (if you even make it). you don't FIRE a coach without the perception of getting better. this denver team was underachieving, especially given the talent it had on offense (if you deny that, you've probably been too busy watching new england instead of watch denver play). the thing here NOW is that mcdaniels needs to do better than Shannahan, and not 5 seasons down the road either...anything short of 9-7 this season will be a total failure given what we had going on before we hired mcdaniels...and i absolutely guarantee you we ain't going 9-7 this season. 7-9 seems to be optimistic to put it lightly.

if mcdaniels somehow goes 10-6 this season, i'll eat crow. but he's made enough questionable decisions in a matter of only 8 weeks that absolutely nobody of any credibility thinks denver will have a shot this season. they're spot on about it as well. you don't just remove one of the top arms in the league from your team and expect everything will be fine and dandy (especially since we're not a defensive team in the first place). this is NOT a defense statement to cutler. as i said, after the events that transpired, i'm glad he's gone...but WHAT THE HELL POSSIBLY goes through your mind to try trading for matt cassel?? seriously...the mere fact that he entertained that notion shows me how badly mcdaniels is going to fail as a head coach in the NFL

personally, i don't care if it scores points and wins games. then again...i come from a baseball background, so i actually appreciate strategy and the likes of things people consider "boring". an 80 yard bomb to rod smith in the super bowl (that they almost don't broadcast) is exciting to watch, but i care more about a "W" and a ring than anything else. i'm a sports fan, not someone who needs to be lured into games by home runs, throwing bombs and slam dunks.

...but I like a defensive battle too...like in baseball where its a pitchers battle for 8 or 9 innings. But in football, I like balsy plays like when Elway did the sideways windmill into the end zone, knowing he was going to get slammed. I liked watching Cookie Gilcrist run over people. I liked watching Dick Butkus hit Floyd little so hard he didn't know which huddle to go to. I guess I like winning too, but its fun to see wild plays... making for a great memories. My favorite teams have always been the in your face ones like Chicago, Pittsburgh Oakland, Baltimore...and at times The Broncos. Finesse football like new England and to some degree Indianapolis, Dallas and at times the old San Francisco with its west coast offense with three short passes to make a first down. I find boring. But thats me.

Not quantitative yards but a qualitative analysis of the broncos offense. You have been arguing how great the broncos offense was based on their total yards but this does not give a full picture of their offense. Its how you score those yards that counts as well.

Not sure how you so easily discredit MCD's credentials. He was quarterbacks coach when the patriots won two super bowls and an offensive coordinator from 2006-2008 where the Pats saw their longest winning streak of 21 games.

Come on guys, no need for personal attacks. That's a good way to get this threat closed down. I'm sure they are already monitoring it closely, with the reputation the last sports thread got on this forum before it was closed. The only reason this is left open, is because it is city/state specific, so in theory the bashing shouldn't exist. Lets not prove that theory wrong and get this thread closed down. It's nice having an off-topic thread in the mountain west to discuss something such as sports.

1:30 MST Sunday 5-3-2009 at Pepsi Center in Downtown Denver Colorado, is the beginning to the road of a Championship for the Denva Thuggets!!!

Dallas is a very good team, however the Nuggets are playing so well right now I think anyone who plays them will find them VERY Hard to Beat, especially in a 5 or 7 game series.

my lord...do i have to spell it out for you?? it WASN'T ME who's been saying ANYTHING about yards. looking at my last post, i even spelled it out there. then you completely go ignoring my entire case AGAIN. you're reading how my mother listens...so i'm done even talking about that subject.

and the burden of proof isn't required to "discredit" mcdaniels...the burden of proof here is to show that he's even worth a damn in the first place.

Giving a coordinator credit for a teams success as a whole is laughable at best. maybe you remember denver's own quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator during our super bowl years (and the most wins of an nfl franchise in 3 seasons as well)...Gary Kubiak. look at what he's done with houston. MIGHTY IMPRESSIVE if you ask me...especially drafting Mario Williams with the #1 overall pick. what a retard...sure williams is good, but #1?? Please. Now...let's not forget the list of other belicheat coordinators who've fallen face first in the mud in the nfl, such as mangini...the thing here is that mcdaniels has EVERYTHING to prove and time and time again, the history of the nfl shows us that being a cog in a bigger machine means ZIP compared to being the head coach of an NFL team.
