Downtown Provo - 63 East Center - Under Construction

63 Center Street is a six-story, mixed-use development consisting of approximately 7,000 sf of retail on the first floor and 41 loft style apartments on the five floors above. Our inspiration for the design came from both the architecture and beauty of New York City's Park Avenue in addition to some of our neighboring developments, namely the Wells Fargo and Zion's Bank buildings respectively. We believe the use and design of this proposed development perfectly aligns with the City's "lively urban character" vision of downtown Provo, while also providing a "pedestrian- oriented, retail and dining storefront environment."

... and met with the renter for a few moments. You may see that the foundations are made of stones, and that the dimensions of the front section are rather small - both indicating the house is very old. According to the renter, the add-on section began sinking a few years ago, causing the roof to crack and leak. It turns out that the add-on had been built directly on the dirt, without any foundation at all. For the last few months, the house was taken apart entirely except for the wood frame skeleton, and a new concrete foundation was poured underneath both portions (in the center of the original portion in order to preserve the stone foundations on the perimeter). The house is only now just being put back together, and will hopefully be restored to its antique appearance (while on the inside being entirely new).

The point is that while it is immensely sad that the old church is gone, there are still people on the same block who are working very hard to preserve the old structures of the North Park neighborhood. Be thankful for what we have.

Provo neighbors get first look at new MTC plans

Genelle Pugmire DAILY HERALD

http://www.heraldextra.com/news/loca...73084b119.html

PROVO -- Residents from the Pleasant View neighborhood got a first look Tuesday at the next set of plans for additions to the Missionary Training Center campus.

The MTC and other LDS Church department leadership held a one-hour open house, including a one-on-one, question-and-answer time for the residents. The open house unveiled MTC renderings that include three new six-story buildings for classroom instruction...

...What the residents wanted and worked with the church to have is exactly what they are going to get.

"I think it's a good thing," said Gary Winterton, Provo municipal councilman. "The whole process has given us [and the church] a better project."...

..."Construction on the new laundry and auxiliary maintenance services buildings located just east of 900 East and near Wymount Terrace continues to go forward on schedule," said Todd Hollingshead, university spokesman.

"There is also ongoing construction on utility tunnels taking place across the street, on the field next to the Harmon Building. When finished, those utility tunnels will connect existing utility tunnels to the new laundry and auxiliary maintenance services buildings. The work on the utility tunnels is also moving forward on schedule."...

Central Metro - Salt Lake City Proper - Sugar House

Wilmington Gardens

The Sugar House renaissance continues. Two projects by the Woodbury Corporation are poised to completely transform Wilmington Ave. in Sugar House. The projects at 1201 Wilmington Ave and 1202 Wilmington Ave are both mixed-use and will make Wilmington Ave one of the most pedestrian friendly corridors in Sugar House.

The 1201 Wilmington, also called Wilmington Gardens, project will fully utilize its location next to Hidden Hallow Park. Residents and visitors will be able to access Hidden Hallow from Wilmington Ave. thanks to a public plaza that will be built in the center of the project. Now that the Sugar House Draw has opened and connects Hidden Hallow to Sugar House Park, the Wilmington Gardens plaza will provide another entry point to Sugar House Park.

Check out this website : http://www.utahcribs.com/wilmington-gardens

The large mixed-use project is replacing what was a long-vacant lot. Apart from the tw0-story town-homes facing Hidden Hallow park, the project consists of two buildings, one at seven-stories and the other at just two-stories. The buildings will include a combined 212 residential units and will have ground-floor commercial space. The larger building that fronts Wilmington Ave. will also provide office/commercial space at the mezzanine level. The project includes a 171-stall underground parking garage...

Park City to become largest ski area in the Nation...Canyons Resort name to change and incorporate into Park City

Vail Resorts details blueprints for 'centerpiece' gondola > It will connect PCMR and Canyons Resort, summer construction planned

...A connection has drawn widespread interest in the time since Vail Resorts acquired PCMR. The tourism industry, rank-and-file Parkites and Wall Street analysts who cover the publicly traded Vail Resorts have been intrigued by the prospects of a combined resort...It will be "one of the most ambitious and impactful capital programs in U.S. ski industry history and will transform the guest experience at Park City Mountain Resort," ...Katz said Vail Resorts will create "one of only a handful of top destination resorts in the world, both in terms of the experience, but also in terms of the financial performance...

Jay Hamburger, The Park Record

http://www.parkrecord.com/park_city-...rpiece-gondola

Vail Resorts on Monday said it plans to build a gondola linking Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort prior to the 2015-2016 ski season, publicly outlining details of the much-anticipated connection for the first time as part of a broader announcement involving more than $50 million in upgrades.

In a release, Vail Resorts said the link will be an eight-person gondola that will travel between the base of the Silverlode lift at PCMR and the Flatiron lift at Canyons Resort. It will also offer an unloading point at Pine Cone Ridge, Vail Resorts said.

Planning for the link has been a priority since Vail Resorts acquired PCMR in the fall. The Colorado firm operates Canyons Resort as part of a long-term agreement with the Talisker corporate family. The release says the linked resort will offer more than 7,300 acres of skiing terrain. It would be the largest mountain resort in the U.S...

...Vail Resorts, meanwhile, said in the release it intends to upgrade the King Con and Motherlode lifts prior to the next ski season. King Con, now a four-person lift, will be turned into a six-person one. It will be a high-speed, detachable lift. The Motherlode lift, a fixed-grip, three-person lift, will be made into a high-speed, detachable lift for four people. The release says the upgrades will cut lift lines.

Vail Resorts also said it wants to build a new Snow Hut restaurant with 500 inside seats at the bottom of the Silverlode lift. It will be situated at the terminal of the gondola. The firm also said snowmaking will be expanded on two Iron Mountain-area trails at Canyons Resort that will become more central as a result of the connection. The Red Pine Restaurant at Canyons Resort will be renovated...

Outdoor concert season at Deer Valley Resort

_________Deer Valley to Park City's Main Street: one gondola or two gondolas? ...Plus major expansion for Deer Valley Resort on the way.

____________________________
____________________________Park City, Utah @ Deer Valley Resort

By Jay Hamburger - The Park Record

http://www.parkrecord.com/park_city-...gondola-or-two

The top executive at Deer Valley Resort is scheduled to talk with Park City leaders on Thursday, continuing a series of high-profile City Hall appearances recently by figures in the ski
industry...

...He said he anticipates questions about Deer Valley's internal planning efforts in preparation for building a gondola linking the slopes with Main Street. City Hall is expected to hold a
critical role in the discussions since it seems almost certain the terminal on the Main Street end of the gondola will be on property now under municipal ownership.

Wheaton said Deer Valley considered a range of options for a Main Street connection with two of them now being more closely studied...

...Either of the routes could be redesigned to include the Huntsman estate on Royal Street, Wheaton said. That acreage is on the market. There has been speculation that the Huntsman
estate, notable for its development potential, could occupy an important location along a gondola route.

Construction of a gondola could start as early as the summer of 2016, Wheaton said. He said Deer Valley is in discussions with the Doppelmayr Group manufacturer about a
gondola...

...Wheaton, meanwhile, said he intends to describe plans for major development overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir. The land is in Wasatch County and Deer Valley is
one of four landowners in the vicinity. A project would involve an expansion of Deer Valley's skiing terrain. Work such as the expansion of the skiing and the installation of
infrastructure could start as early as the summer, he said...

The Parkite is finally unveiled on Main Street

"For Sundance, this thing will be just crazy," Hunt said...

Bubba Brown - The Park Record

http://www.parkrecord.com/summit_cou...ed-main-street

The first store at the newly renovated The Parkite, formerly known as the Main Street Mall, opened Friday.
The Parkite will feature five retail stores and 15 condominiums. (Christopher Reeves/Park Record)

Patrons poured in from the busy sidewalk on Friday, flooding Lululemon Athletica, the first retail store open at the newly renovated Parkite building.
The construction fence that had lined the building and blocked the view from Main Street for many months had recently been taken down, and many were getting their first look at the future of what was formerly the Main Street Mall.
...

...Though Lululemon was the first retail store to open at The Parkite, there will four others. Opening sometime in December will be Gorsuch, a ski apparel store, while Robin's Jeans and an UGG boots retailer are slated to open by the end of January, Hunt said. A fifth retail space remains unfilled.

Downtown Update - Seasons At Denver Street

Seasons At Denver Street

In Pictures: Seasons at Denver Street above ground level

Isaac Riddle  December 1, 2014  Central City, Developments, Salt Lake City, Under Construction- http://www.slcity.org/pictures-seaso...-ground-level/

Construction of the Seasons at Denver Street is progressing quickly. The concrete foundation has been poured and framing should commence within the next few weeks. The six-story, 92 residential-unit development replaces a vacant two-story office building and two small surface parking lots. While not mixed-use, Seasons at Denver Street will have zero setback and good street engagement, unlike the project across the street.

Salt Lake City Proper Update - Liberty Park Place

Rendering Liberty Park Place

Another mixed-use project coming to Liberty Park neighborhood

Isaac Riddle  December 2, 2014  Developments, Liberty Wells, Salt Lake City, Under Construction - http://www.slcity.org/another-mixed-...-neighborhood/

With all the growth happening in Salt Lake City right now, it was only a matter of time before the energy spread to the neighborhood surrounding Liberty Park. Last month the Salt Lake Planning Commission approved variances for a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-used development at the northeast corner of 700 East and 900 South. Infill projects are also popping up within a few blocks of the park.

Construction has begun on Liberty Park Place, a mixed-use condominium project on the 1300 South block on 500 East. The project is less than a block from Liberty Park and will consist of six live/work units. All six residential units will have three bedrooms, a two car garage and ground level office space. The living space and garage will be accessed from a private driveway off of 500 East while the work space will have separate entrances on the project’s north side.

The condominiums will be three floors with the top two floors designated as residential space above the ground floor work space and garage...

Downtown Update - North Temple Projects

Contrasting styles converge on North Temple

 Home / Depot District • Developments • Salt Lake City • Under Construction / In Pictures: Contrasting styles converge on North Temple

...The North Sixth Apartments and the expansion of Bridges at Citifront are prime examples of the more modern and the conventional suburban designs respectively.

...The design of North Sixth is features clean lines, varying roof heights and a unique color scheme. There is no other building in Salt Lake that looks like North Sixth. The architects of North Sixth have gone as far as to incorporate public art into the project. North Sixth shows that affordable housing projects can be interesting and add to the character of a neighborhood...

Public officials and guests are getting their first glimpse today of the new Jessie Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre, home to Ballet West and the Ballet West Academy, as well as renovations at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre, located adjacent to the Centre at 50 West 200 South in downtown Salt Lake City. Grand opening ceremonies are being held this afternoon (December 5).

The Ballet Centre offers modern costume and scenery shops, state of the art technical facilities, administrative offices, and five studios flooded with natural light. The new space will allow the Ballet West Academy to increase their existing programs and enrollment by four-fold, improve the quality of educational programs for pre-professional dancers, and support new outreach opportunities.

In addition, the Centre offers several public amenities including an expanded lobby at the adjacent Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre, new concession areas, expanded public restrooms, and two new reception areas in the lobby and on the roof terrace.

“Patrons will be impressed with the Capitol Theatre renovations,” Philip Jordan, the Salt Lake County Center for the Arts Division director, said in an earlier release. “We will have much improved seating, an updated, energy efficient heating and cooling system and an expanded lobby. When the complete project is open, the lobby will nearly double in size and we will have a sizeable increase in public restrooms.”

SALT LAKE CITY – A grand opening was held for a ballet center in Salt Lake City that sits right next to the Capitol Theatre.

The Jessie Eccles Quinney Ballet Center is a 55,000-square foot building, and the new state of the art facility features five studios, a rooftop reception area and an expanded lobby that connects to the Capitol Theatre.

The new center is a permanent home for Ballet West, considered one of the top ballet companies. Those involved with the project, the dancers in particular, said the new center will shape ballet and the arts in Salt Lake City for generations to come.

“This is where people train to become ballet dancers, and they can walk right through the lobby and into the theater and see, and correlate, wait, ‘That building is where they learned how to do it, and that’s where they go and do it,’” said Christopher Ruud, Principal Dancer for Ballet West. “I think it’s just going to welcome legions of young dancers into our halls and into our studios.”

The ballet center has been 14 years in the making, and the $33 million price tag was met through a combination of private and public funds.
