Exclamation 2008 Retrospective: A Pilgrim on the Silk Road

Was taking a stroll down memory lane on photobucket this morning and it occurred to me that I may as well indulge my self-centeredness and post a retrospective thread. Also, in the process, I realized that its a year later and I still haven't posted my photos from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Clearly I am the laziest man alive. But, if you're interested, keep an eye open for those. I intend to post them today or tomorrow.

Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

These are in every way a joy to behold. Thank you.

(And by the way, I have been anxiously awaiting the final few photo threads you have in store - hurry up! )

The most hardcore photothread on SSP as of yet.
My jaw is in my lap right now. Thanks, Reesonov!

Wild stuff! Nothing wrong with a retrospective--you've got steel balls going to some of those places at this time in history.

Thanks everyone. Certainly part of the appeal of travelling to these kinds of places are that people think you're "hardcore", but really its not that difficult. As I've said before, I would encourage anyone to do it.

I was google image searching a photo of Beijing to post in another thread and one of the results that was returned was this thread. It brought back a lot of good memories for me and, as most of these places aren't seen very often on SSP, I thought that I might bump it to see if any new members were interested.

Beautiful! I love how haphazard, knotted, and dense the communities are.

Excellent photos! What brought you to that part of the world? Several years ago I read Eastward to Tartary and the Great Game (one of the best books I've read) and I am fascinated by this region.

How were you able to travel safely in Pakistan and Afghanistan? I am looking forward to your photos of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (and Iran if you have any).
