From what i understand the trees that had to go have been cut down for a while. So that would make me beleive that the old oak is safe for now..

It seems like there's a chance the remaining trees could be cut down later because of how the upper floors protrude out over the lower floors. That does look like a nice tree, but I am not sure it fits the architecture of the building and the new plaza that will go in.

Hopefully they'll do some nice landscaping in front of the library and in the park behind. I think the Clyde Street sidewalks are also going to be widened when the Sister Sites are developed, so that will be another opportunity for some nice greenery. I've mentioned before that it would be nice if they explored some different types of trees and shrubs. In particular I like a lot of the leafy evergreen stuff like the large rhododendrons and other similar plants you see around the city. They are much more attractive in the winter than bare branches.

I was walking down Queen last night, and I was blown away by how much the library is adding to the street's sense of scale. I can't wait until development starts on the lot across the street.

I was talking to one of the workers from PCL about the library at work today. He was saying that the library should be topped out by December sometime they hope.

I'll also have to snap a pic of this one from my deck (14th floor of park vic).

A while ago I read an article stating that there were going to be some pretty dramatic changes to the structure this fall. Presumably the upper cantilevered floors will be built using large steel beams.

This project reminds me a lot of the ROM expansion built a few years ago in Toronto. Similar part of the city, similar departure from standard architecture. This should be a landmark building in Halifax when it is completed.

Not sure if anyone posted it, but there appears to be a Library webcam. What is the anticipated opening date? I had heard sometime in 2015?

Pic of the library from Park Vic. Looks like they're pouring some more on the third floor today.

I like how tall the lower floors are. You can really get a sense of the scale of the building from these latest photos.

Damn! At this rate of progress, the library might beat City Centre Atlantic to completion

New Central Library Consultation – Nov. 14
"For an exclusive first look at the Halifax Central Library please attend a public consultation on Wednesday Nov. 14 from 7-9 pm at Pier 21 (1055 Marginal Rd). The evening will include the unveiling of the interior designs and building finishes through a 3D virtual tour. The architects will also be on hand and there will be a couple of collaborative conversations."

I thought the interior had already been shown before construction even started?
