{SA} Horizon Pointe Plaza ▬ 900,000 Square Feet

Horizon Pointe Plaza

This is a development I've been interested in the first time I found out about it. Simply because I am happy something is finally being built on the east side. Yes I know it's just a massive suburban parking lot shopping center. I'm not arguing any type of merit for this project. Just happy big retail has finally hit the east side. There's also a 400,000 square foot retail center going up in the Woodlake area you see in the below aerial.

Some back story. This site was owned by Galo Properties but was than sold to the commercial arm of Koontz-McCombs who then sold it to Weingarten.
  • What: 900,000 square foot retail center.
  • Where: Northwest corner of I-10 and Foster Rd on the East side.

Some might argue with this being called the "East Side", but its still good to see something happening somewhere besides the typical spots. I had a friend who lived close to Foster Rd, and he was talking about how the area could really use more retail.

Well, this is the east side. Do you mean they'd want it called "Far East side"?

"Far" isn't attached until 1604 and beyond.

Let me guess the anchors from left to right:

Walmart, then Best Buy, then Kohls, then Barnes and Noble.

^^^Ehhhh, I'd say Target instead of Wal-Mart, then put the Best Buy where you said Kohls, and maybe instead of Kohl's we could have a giant Chuck E Cheese/Bass Pro Shops/IKEA outlet

This is very interesting....I was just thinking about this the other day. The I-10 east corridor has had VERY little in the way retail at all. Downtown-eastward. Housing developments have been creeping closer and closer to I-10 (from the north) over the years (Schertz, Converse, etc.) I figured it was just a matter of time until I-10 started to commercialize more (aside from truck stops).

Yeah, that side of San Antonio always looked like Corpus Christi from I-10. You had to get off the freeway to see the development.

Something tells me that once 130 is completed down to Seguin, the whole I-10 corridor connecting it and SA is going to look a lot livlier.
