Tallest Parking Structures on Earth

Hey peeps, I was just wondering if anybody had a list of the tallest parking structures on Earth by height. They can be integrated into a building or by it's self.

So, does anybody know the 10 tallest parkings on Earth?

If you are going to count parking towers by height, than you should count JUST parking garages. Lots of towers integrate some parking into the building, starting with the former WTC. If you are going to count this statistic, than count parking garages as parking garages.

Not really. The parking was in the basement, the buildings themselves had no parking. While development in NYC can be depressing one thing the city planners did right is outrule parking podiums, Manhattan doesn't have one of these types of buildings, which is why any development with parking will have the parking underground.

the marina towers in chicago have over 20 stories of parking i believe. i think theres a stand alone structure in seattle with 14 or so.

the marina city parking garage levels go up to 19, which is pretty tall, but not the tallest in chicago. the tallest parking garage in chicago is the Harrison Hotel Electric Garage which stands 21 stories.

the Quincy Street Garage (designed by the same architect) was even taller at 25 stories, but it was demolished back in the 60s to make way for the federal center complex

Imagine your car was on the 20th level of Marina City. What a pain in the ass it would be to drive up and down 20 levels of parking everyday.

first of all, marina city only has 19 levels of parking. the 20th floor contains the laundry room and resident storage.

second, the garage levels are valet only, meaning that you would never be allowed to drive your car up or down the parking ramp at all.

Either way it would still be a pain in the ass to have to wait for your car.

it's really no big deal... my dad used to park in mc, and those valet guys are really fast

Is the valet parking only thing a post 9/11 thing?

I visited friends back in the late 70's who lived in one of the buildings. I distinctly remember all of us getting into their Volvo on a icy January evening and driving out of the garage sans valet.

i dont drive but im sure it would be fun as hell to ride down on a skateboard

One thing flat-landers need to understand about this. Many of these parking garages (at least in Chicago) are laid out topologically as double-helixes, so for every 1 "loop" down the ramp, you are actually descending 2 floor levels. And the bottom 2 or 3 floors are usually a straight ramp or something else, so worst case is you drive 8 or 9 times 360-degree loops - not so bad. (Fun, actually, unless it's rush hour.)

but that's not how marina city's spiral ramps work, it's one continuous helix from the ground up to the 19th level. however, no one other than valets are allowed to drive on the ramp, so all of these people who think it would be annoying to drive up and down the ramp everyday to park and retrieve their car don't know what they're talking about.

Detroit has some tall ones. Greektown parking structure is 13 and i think there might be one taller.

Philly has a number of tall garages in Center City, but most of them top out at 10-12 levels max. Chicago definitely has Philly beat.

Any pictures of those 21/25 story garages?

These garages where from the days when architects and engineers were toying with the idea of vertical mechanical garages that used elevators to store cars on each floor. Many older large cities had them, but only a few survived.

Hotel Harrison Garage (Chicago):

You have the now demolished Quincy Street Garage as was mentioned that stood 285 feet (25 floors). But, the tallest one of these types, I believe, was the now demolished Carew-Netherland Garage in Cincy that stood 342 feet (27 floors).
