Excellent thanks for the pictures! Thank goodness they didn't pick the donut deck, it would of be very strange.

And also, the crane is going up! I believe they will be putting 2 cranes up, one on the side and the core crane.

The donut looked terrible good lord!

This building is pretty awesome. I'm not sure where the rumors of a height increase came from but even in it's current form it'll change Philly quite a bit!

the donut building could be cool as a shorter tower in a different location

but as a center piece it's just weird as shit

It reminds me a little too much of Knoxville's Sunsphere.

So now that we know the crane will be erected on top of the steel structure, what was that square base they were working on at the floor on the west side. Was the original intent to place the crane there and then plans changed?

Pretty sure there are going to be (at least) two tower cranes. I think someone mentioned that further up this thread, and when I drove by yesterday (down 19th Street), it looked to me as if there were two separate tower cranes being erected (one on or adjacent to the core, and another nearby on the ground). Which would make sense for a project of this size, and given the need to be constructing the core while the attached steel structure is also being erected, and taking into account that this core will be near one side of the tower and not near the center.

Granted that I was driving during morning rush hour, and couldn't slow down or stop to take a good, long look. But that's what it looked like to me as a I drove by.

(At least) two cranes were in the plan all along. On a project like this, changes "on the fly" are seldom made. My guess is that the black (Cornell) crane is on top of the steel because it couldn't be located on the bathtub floor without interfering with erection of the steel. I may be wrong, but I suspect that it will be used to lift steel on the west side of the core and to lift concrete mix to the core itself. The red crane can be on the floor because it won't interfere with construction there. Remember that the design includes large, three-floor (?) atria on the east side of the core. My guess is that the red crane will be situated within the atria but close to their western edges.

Please note that I'm not an engineer or project manager. The above is just my theory!

The red frame on the floor looks like the base to a hoist or construction elevator.

I was there yesterday as well, tried to take a few photos from angles not previously shown (at least not in a while) and show its height relative to the Comcast building:

Now that I see the photos of the tower crane being assembled out of both black and red components, I'm wondering if maybe what I saw when I drove by last Friday morning was actually just crews working on different parts of this single crane.

As always, time will tell.

I'm sorry but how long does it take to construct a crane? Like my god it's been a week. FMC had both of their cranes up within 2 days. I'm baffled by this.
