RIYADH | Kingdom Centre | 984 FT / 300 M | 41 FLOORS | 2002

From website.
Quote:
Located in Riyadh city the capital of Saudi Arabia & the Region's largest economy and most important financial centre.

Its strategic location coupled with unmatched distant visibility distinguishes Kingdom Centre from any other building in the Region. It has transformed the landscape around Riyadh's fastest-growing business and commercial district, crowning Olaya's emergence as the new centre of Riyadh, as its glittering icon rise from the district's highest and most strategic location; at the crossroads of King Fahad Expressway, Olaya Road and Orouba Road, a central location giving it unrivaled accessibility, visibility and prestige.

The Kingdom Centre was built on 94,230 square meters of land with a total built up area of 300,000 square meters. It contains a highly prestigious shopping mall anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue and Debenhams, offices with the most advanced information and telecommunications capabilities, fully serviced internationally managed Reguss Business Centre, business suites, luxurious residential apartments, the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel with a modern celebration hall, complete fitness club facilities and a variety of the finest international restaurants.

Sky bridge:
Quote:
Extending 65 meter in length, the Sky Bridge which is a steel structure weighting about 300 tons sits on top of the 300 meter height tower, rising 918 meter above sea level and overlooking the whole of Riyadh, its unique position gave it the advantage of being one of the most important attraction point for tourism in KSA.

The trip to the sky bridge passes through two elevators, first elevator will take about 50 seconds to reach the height of 180 meter to the Transfer level, and second elevator will take less than 40 seconds to reach its final destination the Sky Bridge.

I really like this building. Not many people here talk about it. It's actually a nice building and would like to visit it before I turn 50. Anybody ever take any pictures? I only find them on the web but I'd like to see some taken by fellow forumers.

Amazing building. Would love to see this one in person - I bet it would be spectacular.

I've never seen night shots of this tower. Nice!

Can't say we've ever had a thread on Riyadh here on SSP.

Who designed this? I honestly don't recall (I know Foster did the other really tall tower in this city - the pyramid with the ball on top)...Pickard-Chilton?

This building is still probably in my favourite 20 of all time.

The building's design is cool, but it almost doesn't look real, as if some joker photoshopped it into a bunch of pictures of Riyadh.

Ellerbe Becket out of Minneapolis designed this building. . . there was lots of talk on the forums about it back in 2002 when it was completed and prior during construction. . .

Perhaps the design is so compelling because it reminds us of a piece of female anatomy? Or reminds me of one anyway.

Such a knock-out tower in so many ways. The fit and finish is impeccable--the tower looks so ethereal and flawless in almost all lighting conditions.

The giant, parabolic opening was also a result of programmatic guidelines for the design--apparently there is some strange rule in Riyadh that caps the number of floors or the height of the occupied floor space, and the architect was able to thwart the restrictions by creating a giant opening capped by an obs deck. Can anyone else corroborate this?
